The guy was very retarded and didnt really understand what he was doing. He was also f**king huge. Definitely not 'Mr Average'.

they call him the streak Member 2002, 400 posts SQ 182.5, BP 130, DL 240552.5 kgs @ 100kgs UnEq | My mate failed a 60kg squat on Monday. He is 38 and quite 'well built'. He is completely untrained to be fair. No sports since u-12 football. He couldn't bench 60. He pulled an easy 100 tho!! He's up for progress :-)

nothing to hide, please follow my life on webcam Member 255, 3732 posts | stainless said:I reckon i've trained hundreds of mr untrained average over the years so i feel i can give a decent estimate. Firstly though there's a whole world of a difference between what someone will lift and what they are actually capable of lifting, most untrained individuals will be capable of lifting more than their lack of technique, confidence etc will permit them to. Also most people, bear in mind we're taking mr average and not some one that's ever done a gym lift will be very uncoordinated and more likely buckle forward doing a squat, lift entirely with their back on a deadlift and bounce a bar off their chest on the bench. For this reason i aways start people off with easier to execute exercises that they are less likely to injure themselves on. Although most estimates of mr average give the example of a 70kg man,in my experience body weight doesn't always make a great deal of difference in an untrained individual.I've had guys in their thirties at 6ft 5 and 25 stone that could lift less than a 4ft 10 female client.I'm talking about someone that's been sitting at a desk for years not a manual worker.Any way from my experience if we are talking about say mr average being a guy in his thirties that has a desk job and has never trained then he would be able to do in the region of 40-50kg bench,50-60 kg squat and 60-70kg deadlift, and 30-40 overhead. I'd imagine to most on here those figures sound shockingly low but that is what in my opinion a mr average office worker is capable of in his first attempt. I think some of your figures for an average man in their mid thirties with a desk job sound quite high, not low. I suspect a significant percentage of mid thirties sedentary men simply couldn't do a squat

He says the amount that simply cant do it is huge.

Dan is old fashioned. Member 27, 2028 posts SQ 240, BP 170, DL 255665.0 kgs @ 102kgs UnEq | Some pretty varied figures here. For the record, my 12 year old son - who has not trained with weights - has squatted 45kg and benched 30kg. The squat was ass to heels, not parallel, he even paused at the bottom before coming back up ! This is the only time he has ever squatted, we were clowning about in my Gym one day, started at 20kg and worked up. An average adult male must be able to do double that, surely ? I would suggest that a few of our guesses are a bit short of the mark.

Why not just not get fat in the first place? Member 132, 1406 posts SQ 331, BP 200, DL 320851.0 kgs @ 98kgs UnEq | Mr Average is useless. The average guy off the street is weak and has little/no co-ordination or balance. A full squat would be out of the question for at least 70% of people in my experience. The average gym-goer (already better than Mr Average for attending) is poor. Go for a swim on a Sunday morning in a leisure centre to take a look at the average bloke!
