Not sure if I'm a bodybuilder who looks like a strongman or a strongman who looks like a bodybuilder!
Either way, not in good enough shape to be a bodybuilder and not strong enough to be a strongman!!
Strange how things turn out when you don't try for either huh?!
Think I'll take up knitting or something...

Indeed the diet might be the decider
And aye, I can see why you would think that with my dubious thread title
Is anyone else in the same boat? Found themselves in the gym lifting weights and then decided which route to go down?
Just wondering if most started in the gym to look good, get bigger etc then discovered they were pretty strong or pretty and strong and decided shouting at the tv when BSM or WSM was on wasn't enough anymore?

Haha cheers Nick, would love to try that again to see if it was a one off!
Nah, me point is just wondering what made people decide to do strongman? Can't imagine there would be that many people who started off in the gym with the intention of doing strongman from the start.

i watched a vid of a u90k comp and it looked like great fun so i gave it a go ,and it was .i think most people try it because it looks enjoyable, and it gives an opportunity to do well even if you dont have the best static strength. CHESTER02/05/10 @ 10:18

I`m too fat to be a bodybuilder & too weak to be a powerlifter
so i just go around pretending to be a strongman.

If you will willingly question if your a bodybuilder or not you clearly are to much of a guyliner wearing, manbag carrying, Hollyoaks watching bummer to belong in stregth sports.

Well, Mr Griff, that depends on your definition of a body builder I suppose. I've never been one to oil myself down ( thats the wifes job! ) stick on a pair of pink speedos and hit the stage striking some poses.
Do I go to the gym, lift heavy (ish) weights, in a vain attempt to get bigger, stronger and enhance my already female knee weakning appearance?
f**king right I do, like most of the mofo's here I bet!
Do I watch Hollyoaks? No. Although I did get jiggy with one of the (female) cast members once...although that might have been wet dream.
Do I wear guyliner? No. The fact that you Mr Griff even have a slang term for it suggests that you, at least on a Sunday have give it a go
Man bag? Ok You've got me there, usually just with me gym gear in though
Did I get pretty strong along the way, by accident really? I believe so, so once upon a time I had a stab at a novice strongman comp in bonny Scotland. I didn't do well enough to delude myself that I was the next Marius nor bad enough to get it out of my system. I pulled a geet big truck pretty far ffs!
So I ask myself again, am I a bodybuilder or a strongman?
I dunno, as I say, there is always knitting!

Sound advice Nige. Strength wise, at the minute not a great deal, spend too much time treating gym like a social club these days, drinking coffee, lifting as little as I can get away with.
A couple of years ago, not so bad, main issue is I've hardly ever train legs due to a knee problem I've had since I was a kid.
On a good day, bench press around 210k (ugly rep, not comp spec!), 250k deadlift maybe, 200 ish squat iirc.
A little better overhead, behind neck push press I think I got up to about 130k or so.
Im around 6'1" and 105k most of the time.
