I voted yes but that is a personal thing. You have a choice if you want to lift unequipped no problem your allowed too even in an equipped comp and there are unequipped competitions so it doesn't hold the sport back in that sense. New overpriced kit that a working man can't afford, so can't compete at that level will. Classic powerlifting sounds a great idea. Mr.Clegg hit the nail on the head imo, lift and let lift.

I thought you had to be 125kg plus to join. Unfortunatly Ive lost around 3kg of pec muscle through lack of benchpress in the last 6 weeks lol.

On a serious note, RAW powerlifting is the future, so to answer the question yes kit is holding stinky powerlifters back! Grin

Powerlifting kit is costly, and if nothing else this acts as a disincentive to those wishing to join the sport:

Shirt: £110
Suit: £110
Knee: £ 25
Wrist: £ 15
Singlet: £ 40
GBPF : £ 40

Total: £340

That's before pay entry fees....

In my view we should have "shorts and T shirts" powerlifting comps, singlets if you want, tested and untested lads (and lasses) lifting together on the same platform but in separate competition from one another - and f**kING BIG TROPHIES!!!

Why complicate raw lifting with wraps? Some knee sleeves to keep the joint warm maybe. But not wraps, where different people will gain different amounts out of wearing knee wraps thus making it equipped and they take aaaaages to put on!!! Sorry just my thoughts didnt really answer the thread title and i believe that its probably a factor in PL not being an olympic sport tho (let the sprinters spikes, swimmers suits etc debates begin)

Maybe they should allow any equipment but say that you have to run onto and from the platform in a really short time, thus making ridiculously tight suits and wraps impractical Cool

I dont know, BUT, until there is a single ply and/or raw comps for untested guys, double ply briefs/doubly ply suit overtop etc will remain

ive just started weighlifting and powerlfitng and watching people put on these suits, especially bench suits, luks mental, definately when people are using asda bags with the bench suits lol. there also extremely uncomfortable, i thought powerlifting was meant to be fun, nt painful. i tried a deadlift suit on a few weeks ago and almost turned me into a woman, the way i look at it is that if people cant reach a certain weight they use a suit that enables them to... i dnt see the point, its sort of looks lyk ur cheating in my eyes, hope i dont offend any1 Unhappy, if ur gunna use a suit to pull more weight up, u myt as well get ur mate to giv u a hand insted. but im very uninformed as ive just started so...
