Just a lucky guess based on the fact that you travel 80 miles to do a training session and have spent ££££ on bars and plates so you can train wherever you need to.

i also dont enjoy eye contact and i like routine, hate change haha. Touche. Probably right. Anyway, im upping the calories, few kg to put on and swing some big iron around in next few months. Might even start logging it.

Not a bad one today really either. Did an upper body session because my legs and lower back are in absolute bits after yesterday. I guess if you train about 2 x in about 2 weeks that's what you get. Anyway, not massive drop off really seeing as I haven't done much pressing in quite a while (probably a bit more than a couple of weeks!)

Bench:
60 x 6
80 x 6
90 x 6
100 x 3
110 x 2
120 x 2 x 5,
120 x 3

Standing press behind neck, paused
50 x 5
55 x 5
60 x 5
65 x 3
70 x 3
60 x 7

Pullups
bw x 8
10kg x 6
15kg x 6
20kg x 6
25kg x 6

Then lots (and lots) of curls, rear delt/rotator cuff stuff and other such fluff while I waited for the missus to finish deadlifting (something isn't right about that is there?)

Plan is to work up to 120 for 4 x 4 or maybe a few sets of 5 over the next few weeks. I'd say that I could have got 4 maybe 5 (if pretty lucky) in one set today if I was going nuts.

Beast. Mate, I am a bodybuilder in disguise. I love a good pressing session. Much prefer overhead to bench though. Wish the press was still a contested lift.

Weirdly though, despite benching and stuff, I've never struggled really with shoulder flexibility much (hips and ankles are a different story).

I stopped benching in 2012 after doing a 155 lol. It f**ked my shoulders for weightlifting. So tight. But now I'm feeling I might be able to do it. And if I'm weak there then I need to get stronger! I'm adding it to my itinerary of assistance exercises.

I OHP'd for the first time since 2012 the other day too. Strict was 85, push press was 95 lol!

Strong. I hate push pressing. I'm terrible at it although I suspect that if I am awful at it, then getting better at it can only be a good thing. Did them religiously for a while and managed 120. Although I used a nice bendy strength shop bar and I reckon the whip helped a bit.

TBF I do a lot of work for my mid and lower traps and muscles surrounding the scaps (I just don't log it). I've found that if I don't, my shoulders start to hurt, but when I do, I'm basically pain free, my ROM is great and I'm more stable. Glute med exercises (hip abduction and external rotation) also really help my hips. I need to work on my ankles so I plan to do quite a bit of dorsiflexion exercises to see if I can increase my ROM there.

If I was to go back in time mate to your age [Angry] I would have a bunch of exercises like this that I did religiously and I would spend a good bit time improving my movement quality (not just in the lifts). So, having an optimal level of ROM, stability, motor control and body awareness in all sorts of joints and positions.

I suspect that one of the next "things" in the fitness world will be quality movement (Ido Portal is a great example of someone popularising this stuff, as well as the gymnastic skills in cross fit that are probably doing the same).

To be fair mate, I've just took it upon myself to take a step, back from all my rehab prehab stuff. It just builds up and I end up warming up in a morning, before a session, cooling down then stretching on a night. It's a nightmare, then I get arsey if I mess my routine up. I'm going to still do my warm ups and some stuff on my off days. But I want to prioritise my weightlifting and getting the most from my sessions. I think I'm in a good position now to just maintain my flexibility and improve my lifting & strength. I don't want to go into a session tired

But yes I agree on your exercises thing. It'll be stuff like that I do on my off days. Depending on how arsed I can be/what hurts Happy

Squats
60 x 3
100 x 3
120 x 3
130 x 2
140 x 1
150 x 1
160 x 3

165 x 1
150 x 3

Snatch
40 x 3 x 2
50 x 2
60 x 2
70 x 2
80 x 1
85 x 1
90 x 1
92.5 x miss x 3 (pull had gone, ffs)

80 x 2
82.5 x 2
85 x 2

Clean and Jerk
60 x 2
80 x 1
90 x 1
100 x 1
110 x 1
115 x 1

105 x 2 + 1
110 x 2 + 1

Jerk Dips
100 x 3
130 x 3
150 x 3
170 x 3
180 x 3
190 x 3

Completely forgot how to pull today. My god why does that happen? The head knows what you want to do but the inner t**t stops you from doing it. Could feel myself lifting the bar straight from the floor but for some reason I couldn't stop myself from doing it. Every miss at 92.5 the bar came straight and then went around the knees, but up to that they were fine. Cleans were then a bit similar but jerks were actually really good. Abs are a big weak-point I think. Couldn't create any tightness on squats or cleans. Need to work on that. I haven't used a belt in a long time but used to get a good 10kg or so from them. Same old problem today. If I had some form of belt on squats would be really easy I suspect.

You can over do that stuff mate. I see people all the time spending an hour doing corrective stuff and then seemingly forgetting to train. If you pick the right exercises your strength work should be sort of corrective in any case. I'd see most of that stuff as maintenance and just have a few go-to exercises that you need to do regularly, rather than go over the top.

That I do. Typically these people also seem to have a preference for Inov8 trainers, skins and foam rollers. They also spend most of their "smashing", "flossing", "distracting" and practicing voodoo and other black magic it seems. Not sure about the last one if I am honest but I'm pretty sure I heard somebody say he was gonna voodoo some s**t up last week.

Youth of today. FML.

Yeah seen the plates. They look well good. Shame that 99% of people that use the facility have no idea what they have access to. Its going to be one of the most well equipped (in terms of platforms, bars, etc,) places in the country.

Gym will be closed next week so let me know if you want to train in A005.
