Was feeling very stupid yesterday and entered the IAWA Strongman comp in Cornwall! I used patella tape to strap up my hernia and double belted on most events to make sure! This is how it went down!

EVENT 1 Deadlift( powerlifting style)

Starting weight 200kg, rising bar, jump in when you like, 10kg increases!

I did 200kg, 220kg, 240kg, 250kg and finished with 260kg! Didnt go for 270kg

PLACED 3RD

EVENT 2 Log Press

Starting weight 70kg, 2.5kg jumps, 4 attempts only, jump in when you like!

Did 80kg, 90kg, 95kg and finished on 100kg

PLACED 6TH

- - - - - -

EVENT 3 Tyre Flip

320kg x 5 flips, fastest time wins

21 secs

PLACED 1ST ( won an event, goal achieved for the day! )

- - - - - -

EVENT 4 Medley

50kg Oil Drum, 70kg Kerb stone, 90kg Beer Barrel, 100kg Oil Drum from various distances loaded on flat bed.

PLACED 3RD

EVENT 5 Farmers Hold

130kg each hand, thick smooth polished steel handles, railway sleepers

PLACED 5TH

EVENT 6 Atlas Stones

90kg, 95kg, 100kg, 117kg and 135kg from various distances loaded onto a flat bed.

PLACED 3RD or 4TH

FINISHED 3RD PLACE OVERALL AND BEST U105KG WINNER TOO!

Feel sore today but happy to finish the year on a high before surgery! Grin

Strong, strong dude for 80kg. Is that your real weight or is that with an arm chopped off or something?
AvatarSteBaker
Cheers Mr Small, yeah its my real weight, although i was 83kg for that comp! If that matters! Grin
AvatarThing
nice big slap on the back, well done and at 80kgs and a 260 dead very very impressive in my eyes
AvatarJoni
hey well done and all, but it does sound pretty risky to do a comp with open hernia to me!!! But i know f**k all about hernias...

end well, all well Grin
AvatarSteBaker
I was a little stupid for doing the comp, but you know that when you get the strongman bug, you cant resist being an idiot!!!!! Grin You don't want to live forever do you? Grin

My appointment with the Surgeon went well today, and have been given the go ahead for surgery within 3 - 6 weeks, also iam on the last minute list!
Ive opted to go for the incision op rather than key hole op. The key hole op goes through the belly button then across to the groin, and theres a higher risk of damage to bowels and organs.
The incision op cuts the skin directly in front of the hernia and is less likely to touch any organs or bowels! Same operation procedure once inside, simply stitch a netting to the muscle wall, then re stitch the incision! Then the scar tissue then interwines in the mesh and makes the muscle wall strong again! Should be back to normal hopefully 6 weeks after the op!

sounds promising Ste good luck and hope you come back stronger after this.
AvatarWILLSAN
just read about you doing the cornwall comp you mad f**ker! Eek

hopefully youll get the surgery sooner rather than later and give you plenty of time to get yourself set for next season.
AvatarJoni
good to hear there is progress.

You forgot the most important reason to opt out for incision: you get a cool scar.

GOOD LUCK MATE! enjoy the morphine.

ditto that, missed the comp report, awesome stuff mate, especially considering your injury.

Some quality tyre, medley and deadlift work - good performance mate

Hope the surgery goes well. Be good to see you competing @ Englands u105 again next year!!

You put on any weight yet? Wink
