Today i had my third event training day. I had high hopes for today because i felt strong, and had an extra rest day due to man flu. But because of the runny nose and retreating cold my breathing was f**king difficult!

Also, hurt my back in farmers and was s**t scared that it would be something serious. Luckily the back loosened up a bit, but i didn't have conviction to hit the yoke with the attitude it needs.

Here are the numbers:

Log - ground -> overhead
2x70
1x80 - flew up
1x85 - easy
f x 90 - cleaned it, and gave two shots, second one much better
f x 90 - again, clean ok, push not there.
3x80 - in 75 seconds. I think i had a good shot at 4 but on third rep i had to push twice. First one hit me in the head Grin

farmers walk
40x empty
40x70m
33x100m - strength was there, grip ok, breating let me down. bas***d!

Back felt sore and stiff, loads of stretching and then:

Yoke
20m x 130
20m x 230 - dropped it two times, couldnt attack it 100% because was worried about my lower back
8m x 250kg just to bring the yoke back to the start line after someone else session.

stones
lap x 105
1 x 105 to a very low platform, chuffed!
lap x 130 - made it move but not enough trust for my technique

so in all, made progress, even on farmers which i didn't make a new pb the weights felt comfortable unlike in past sessions. Didn't make as much progress as i had hoped, but i am over the f**king moon the back was just a scare and not a real problem.

now more stretching and a hot bath...

Awesome stuff mate. As you say, good thing about the back, and now you've loaded a stone, you'll be flying with them before long!

haha, I am ok actually, i mean if you look at my volume it is about half of yours!

which means i can go f**king heavy next weekend just to shake those edinburgh boys up a bit.

Well done on loading the stone Joni. How many people improve their PB by 105KG in a single session? Tongue

The problem with a strongman's back is the fact that it's heavily involved in just about EVERY event. I've personally been trying to click my back into place since getting home tonight. I don't think that I've got a problem. It just feels like I've shrunk a few inches. I even felt my back when I lifted my (15kg) daughter out of the bath tonight.

Low infrequent volume and mainly rest, that's our policy. Yes, I are hoping there is at least one female amputee in the field, I feel i'd have a chance of beating her on the stones.

yes but she would beat you on the points!

purplepaul, event training is really good fun, f**ks you up for a good few days though, but gives strength gains like nothing else! Also, i blame the event training for whacking few good kgs worth of bodyweight on me in past weeks.

pete - good to see you registered on the board mate! Good session today, good battles with the log and yoke.

You did well today Joni. The log looks really natural for you and you loaded your first stone and lapped the 130!! Can't be a bad session considering you thought you'd f**ked your back up!
