» How about a job with the BBC, nice studio, comfortable chair....... (Go to post)19-07-2017 @ 20:04
It not about getting a better job.

Not many jobs are worth 2.2 million or £150,000.00 per year.

Our values are xxxxxx up, end of.

Most nurses will not re-train to be QS or architect or property developer, most do it as a vocation, a dedication to care.

Most of these celebrity people do it out of greed, profile and the thrill of fame.

call it supply and demand, or call it what you like.

Footballers and celebrity people in this country are not heroes, they are not saving lives and they are not that entertaining, if fact most are inept and just plain lucky and in the right place at the right time.

I tell what talent is a heart transplant, a great medical break through.

This is just greed and it shows our values as a society.

....and you are not saving lives but you could be earning anything from 2.5 million to £150,000.000 for part time work or simply talking BS most of the time.

Nice work if you can get it.

And before you say it, yes it is the same at Sky, ITV etc.
Yes of course and footballers on a few hundred thousand pound a week.
Complete selfish greed at the highest level.

Nurses, doctors, fire service, military, working people in general witness their living standards fall, whilst the celebrity culture and media in this country grow richer and richer.

My point is this, the whole of society has it wrong, morally wrong.

...The times they are a changing.

Chest hair and pants, nothing beats it.

Why sweat the small stuff if you want to go shirtless go for it.

I just have not got the V shape to carry it off these days, more box shape.

» Bars, again... (Go to post)03-07-2017 @ 22:21
Firstly I respect all the lifters on here regarding their opinions and many are competition lifters so will know more than me on performance of products.

I just do lots of research and stop off a lot a view and test equipment.

My point on the Texas Power Bar is that is unique to many others i.e. Sleeves with the two pins, sunken in end cap and secure end cap. Rogue use snap rings which most bar manufacturers do, but I like the Texas recessed cap, most lifters would give a xxxx about that.
Wide inside collars, I like it.
Dull black zinc almost gun metal, not bright and shinny like the Rogue.
I prefer things a little more matte or toned down.
I just like it and used one for over 7 years and think it performs very well.
But I am not in a competition, it meets my lifting needs.

Luki, Fair point the bas***d Bar and Bison are decent bars, lifters rate them and they are used a lot in gyms, will perform better than a Jordan or Body Power product again in my opinion.

As for the Rogue it is on the IPF list along with Eleiko, Ivanko, Leoko, Pallini, Uesaka, Titex and Zaoba Bull. So it is approved and if you want performance or just more quality with a bar than go for it. Rogue know what they are doing and are getting more respect in the powerlifting/strength market.
(Bearing in mind they were a Crossfit operation)

I drive for a living and I sometimes drop into gyms or distributors or manufacturers and I just get a little frustrated with the strength manufacturing base in the UK. Lots of distributors but just a few manufacturers which you could count on one hand. I hate bull s**t marketing and distributors making out they are the manufacturers also, when in fact they are not.
Plus with Rogue they do not have a dealer here in the UK.

Enjoy your Bar, it is the most important piece of equipment in my opinion.

I like the Texas Power Bar personally for feel, built and value.

Hearing good things about the Rogue Power Bar not sure it as good as TPB in terms of built quality and longevity.

An Eleiko is the premium of course and a Ivanko many would say.

When you review the bars in the UK and you want a compromise between quality and value, then it is a TPB in my opinion.
Not a bas***d Bar or a Bison, far east imports not as good as TPB or as trusted.
Good just not as good.

Possible AOA (All Out Athletics All Purpose Bar)
Not seen it or used it, could not comment. But people have on this forum and rate their bars.A small start up company.
About £395 retail.

I just wish Rogue had a dealer/distributor in the UK, maybe after the so called exit from Europe ?

I have done lots of research on power bars and the above is just my opinion after months of reviewing bars available in the UK.

General Olympic bars are complete mind field and that is for another day.
» Could you do without any technology, a complete digital detox ? (Go to post)29-06-2017 @ 23:57
There is this book about a guy who lived in rural mid wales for 5 years in a remote cottage in total seclusion with no TV, no phone, no gas and no electricity.
Complete zip. With no one but himself and the wildlife.

He escaped London and the rat race to grow his own food, chop wood, built log fires and be self sufficient.

He hunted, went fishing and lived solely off the land.

His goal was to see how long he could to do it, he lasted 5 years.

He was later diagnosed with quervain thyroiditis his GP informed him he should get out more and become more social. Not sure if in the end it was good for his health.
He felt he was finally going mad in the mountains.

He now lives in Brighton. The complete opposite. True story.

I could do it but more like a small holding or farm but drive into a city/town now and again but then just drive away from the rat race.

Love for your family, health, financial security and freedom is the answer.
Plus lifting, you must lift.

I drive 60,000 miles a year so maybe a just need a re-charge, a re-connect to nature or something.

I could easily say xxxx it to lots of technology, just not all of it.
Do not think I could live that alone either.
» Could you do without any technology, a complete digital detox ? (Go to post)28-06-2017 @ 23:47
Strange I find it.

People walking down a road checking their phones or with those large wireless head phones.

People training then checking their mobile phone. (I leave mine in the car, switch it off at night)

200 channels but nothing worth watching.

People with the mobile by their bedside then checking emails at first light.

Cars, people want the badge rather than a vehicle to do a job.

Sat Nav, because we can no longer read a map.

Million likes and million friends on social media but you do not see the person ever face to face.
(I do not do this nor have a profile on xxxxbook or others for that matter)

Encrypted message technology and it is off bounds to intelligence agencies because privacy is key (What the XXXX is that all about)

Somebody creating adding to a post at 11.47pm, very odd indeed.

Life without any modern day trappings.....?
» Could you do without any technology, a complete digital detox ? (Go to post)28-06-2017 @ 21:17
Lets be clear I like you guys and the Sugden Barbell and I only need three digital needs :-

Mobile phone just the phone calls would be fine if I had to.
Email more for work needs.
Information on the net about lifting.

I could detox easily from :-
Social Media
Mobile Texts
Satellite
Blu Ray
Play Station or others (Do not miss what I never had)
Broadband
Digital Porn (I could go back to a hard copy of Readers Wives)
Freeview etc

I think without work, I could go phone only.
At a push I could go carrier pigeon and back to a fax machine and VHS.

Could you unplug and go without the technology for a period of time.
Just a barbell, woman and a rural retreat, xxxx it and the rat race ?

All this coming and going can have serious side effects at work or leisure.

The official Health and Safety warning is :-

Boxers/Strongmen/Powerlifters must not have a wank before a fight or a lift.
It can cause weakness in the wrists and give you jelly legs.

If you are fully loaded please be careful with your aim.

If you are planning on travelling beware of the erection season.

Also be aware of outbreaks of elevated wanking.

If you must do it at work please take reasonable steps to cover your anaconda or tiddler which ever it is, we are all blessed in different ways and not everyone would like to see it.

The official elf and safety wanking act 2017.
» Drug free and disillusionment (Go to post)07-06-2017 @ 21:41
Lets get a bit sensible here on prison for cheating powerlifters.

We got dick heads driving into people and killing people on bridges and in the streets. Please keep the prison for these and other criminal acts. (Personally I would not bother with prison with these fruit cakes but that is a different debate for another day and another site and the police seem good marksmen anyway)

Drugs is cheating I agree.

However a mistake, a misguided judgement by a human being in sport at a certain level. Maybe a warning or guidance is required.

At world level or national level lifetime ban.

This is hardly Lance Armstrong or Ben Johnson stuff is it. This is a minor sport compared to lucrative sports and lets be blunt look at bodybuilding how many of them swear they are not on the juice, strength sport is very shady when it comes to drug use, and there is bull s**t. Even in MMA they juice I am informed.

I get the pride part and understand if a competitor is second to a cheat it must be soul destroying but not prison. Lifetime ban maybe if they have previous.

Everyone should get a second chance but not child killers or murderous bas***ds.
» Drug free and disillusionment (Go to post)05-06-2017 @ 23:14
I would say most are drug free and decent honest lifters in the main powerlifting/strongman circuit.

When it comes serious money and elite lifters who know what goes on.

I am a recreational lifter and I compete against myself and some times I encourage others or they encourage me but I have not seen any banned drugs being used :- Blood Doping, Androgenic Agents, Anabolic Agents, Hormones, Masking Agents, Narcotics, Glucocorticoids and Cannabinoids.

But what I do see is a lot is stimulants :- Caffeine. Sports Drinks. Whey.

I would debate they are enhancing and some sports drinks are diuretic banned substances. In the 21st century sport has changed and I think at times we cross a grey area with supplementation and "Sports Enhancement Supplements"

I am older of another generation. (Not quite Saxon or Sandow)
Old school, I like clean, up against myself and building strength in a natural way, but that is not to say I do not like my coffee black.

What I do find interesting is Louie Simmons states quite clearly he has no problem with steroids in powerlifting. I like Louie but I do not agree with him on this point. But he has forgotten more about powerlifting than I know, so who am I compared to the elite he has trained, I would like a debate with him on this very point.

I look at this way I want to be strong naturally so I do it natural. Using PED's your true strength is not true strength but a false gauge and a decline in your true strength will follow when you are not on the juice.
