Ok what are your thoughts, a while back there was a thread on people on the juice and competing in drug free feds. No names but talking to my son in-law he works with a guy who competes and just comes off before a comp, what and how much no idea.

So my question is, is how common do you think this really is? I ask as its putting my off all the lifting to be honest, or should I just except for what it is, or is it not really that common after all? Or am I kidding myself?

Lastly I have absolutely have no issues with anyone on the gear, as there are feds for that

I suppose it depends on your definitions but I would say: "Very".

Why do you find is disillusioning?

I suppose as I’m drug free, an old git Happy , stuck in my ways and all that, but that’s why I lift in a drug free fed. To know you’re competing against those who are not does not seem fair, or maybe I’m being a Maryanne

I don't think it's very common at all. I've won two regional Powerlifting comps this year and I'm not on the juice. It would stand to reason that everyone up against me in my class must also have been drug free in those comps too, because I'm hardly a world beater.

I'm sure it goes on to some extent...but what are you going to do? You only compete against yourself anyhow.

Id say, based on the people i know who compete tested, thats its pretty common.

John. You may be drug free but training outside and in a shed is a known performance enhancer and will be on the WADA list soon.... just a friendly warning.

People will always try to find an edge somewhere, and sadly despite there being tested and untested feds, people will still take drugs to win in a tested fed.

I have no issues with people using PED's in power lifting and strongman etc, as long as it's in a non tested fed/comp.

I think this is the crux of it. Unless you hope to become world famous or make your fortune from lifting then does it really matter? You could end up competing and have the worlds number 1 in your category at every comp. Would that put you off, knowing that he'll not win the class? Just aim for the platform PB's and higher level comp qualification totals and disregard whatever goes on around you.

PS. I had to do this in weightlifting because I was s**t! Grin

I agree with John, and have had similar experience. I've never taken any PEDs and am competitive in the regional and national comps. Against guys in my age (40+) and weight class I've never been beaten by more than a few Kg. It does go on for sure, I just don't think it's too common.

Here are the testing results from British Powerlifting last year if you are interested:

I am embarking on an underwhelming 2nd powerlifting 'career' ..... fully drug free and massively weak , if I wanted to lift big and stuff , i'd be going for the untested feds ...... no need to be a dirty cheat !!

I'll never understand why anyone would cheat in powerlifting when you have the option to compete in untested competitions. Is it really worth it for the £4.50 trophy you win, I can kind of understand it in sports with life changing amounts of money on offer, but a sport with next to no money it's just crazy to me. I can't imagine the shame people must feel when they get caught cheating, but maybe they are sociopaths so this isn't an issue.

Without wanting to sound like a Prick only you actually know whether you are Drug Free rather than just doing enough to pass a test...generally when people tell me they are the former I kind of glaze over a bit tbh.

But then I've been involved in this for a while and have had too many conversations with people who can't remember to keep their stories straight, so perhaps I'm just a bit Jaded to it all. (Shrugs)

I know a few guys that have competed tested and they were definitely on. To their credit, they no longer do.

I would find it interesting to read an honest post from someone who has done this, to help me understand.

I honestly don't know why someone would - but the again I struggle to understand why people steal and hurt others. Least with crimes there's some compensation - drug fuelled in a tested fed for what? Applauds from half a dozen other lifters?

I've been heavily involved in drug tested powerlifting, strongman and bodybuilding. I'm sure there's plenty of cheats but think the majority of people are clean - if they are not then they are pretty s**t or I overestimate what advantage drugs offer

I'd say more common than we ( those who want to compete clean) would like.like you I don't have issues with people using and competing in untested Feds but the truth is poeple do cheat in tested Feds there is a list of people on the results so it happens as to why who knows? I don't have much time for poeple who cheat.
