» Eddie Hall podcast appearance (Go to post)20-09-2017 @ 21:33
I enjoyed the pod cast.

Honest and candid interview, the way Ed talked about his father and his job is so true of most working class people.
The way he respects his family and the love of his wife & son.

The dedication and the sacrifice and his sheer focus deserves total respect.

The backing by a local entrepreneur was interesting and his food bill, that is some food bill.

The bodybuilding part was funny also bodybuilding is narcissistic and it is difficult to get a six pack, tell me about it, made me laugh.

I think he is right Strength Sport will get a boast in 2018 from the younger generation taking up Strongman/Powerlifting/Weights.

I look forward to the Christmas break and I will watch it on standard Christmas TV. Well done to Eddie Hall on his title of World Strongest Man.
» Solid Adjustable Multi Purpose Bench Recommendations ? (Go to post)20-09-2017 @ 00:11
Henk thanks for your help.

In your opinion is the Watson adjustable bench the best adjustable bench in the UK ? Build quality and last a lifetime feel.
Bearing in mind most strength kit in the UK is made in the far east including Strength Shop, Body Solid, York, Powertec etc.
Looking at both the Watson adjustable bench and the Kustom Kit adjustable bench it looks as good if not better in the specifications.

It appears that Watson Gym seem to be the premium strength equipment manufacturer in the UK with Kustom Kit close by would that be correct ?

Thank you.

The Body Solid commercial grade benches FID71 & the Pro Club Line FID325 look fine, 11 gauge, 2 x 3 steel, tested to 1000 pounds.

The Strength Shop Riot bench also looks robust and strong, I think the Strength Shop Riot range is their more premium units, so a good bench for the price.

At the tested loads, they will be more than suitable for me.

For commercial out of the box quality these are about the best unless I go down a UK manufacturer route i.e. Watson or Kustom Kit Equipment adjustable bench which would cost in excess of £550 plus VAT

Even a Jordan Fitness adjustable bench which is a far east import is £600 plus VAT

I do appreciate good build quality so I am sure a Watson adjustable bench or a Kustom Kit adjustable bench would be like a Sorinex No Problem Adjustable Bench in terms of tank like build quality and last a lifetime.

The USA have some great Strength brands :- Rogue, Legend, Sorinex, Elite FTS.

We seriously lack behind in terms of choice, value and quality.

Another thing that I have noticed is that the pop pins on some of the heavy used benches can be difficult to pull after use, once they are pulled it is easy to reset them. But after a heavy bench press on heavy incline press they get jammed.
I do not noticed any problems with heavy wear on a ladder style benches.
» Solid Adjustable Multi Purpose Bench Recommendations ? (Go to post)19-09-2017 @ 10:52
I need a good solid adjustable bench, the best I have worked out on is the Hammer Strength pro-style adjustable bench but at the £1,000 plus mark it is not possible.

Utility multi purpose bench ?

Currently use a old solid commercial flat bench, but I need an adjustable bench.

Are any of the fast east imports okay ?
Body Solid, Powerline etc
I hate the bolt together benches to be blunt but a commercial adjustable bench is difficult in the UK.

The Sorinex No Problem is the one it can hold a truck up but brands like Sorinex, Rogue and Legend are not available in the UK.

As for the UK I take it is a Watson Gym or Kustom Gym Kit Equipment adjustable bench at around £500/£600 mark would be built like a tank, all British Made with a good reputation.
Watson Gym bench and the Kustom Kit bench look the same specification, anyone work out on these ?
Or a Strength Shop Riot adjustable bench at the £250 mark ?

Please give me your opinions, and thank you for your help as always.
» Starting strength forums (Go to post)13-09-2017 @ 11:04
Mark Rippetoe and Jim Wendler have written good strength books.

Until I meet people face to face and get get a gauge on the person I will not judge them.

Their work in print is good in my opinion.

As for body shape, Ed Coan does not look like Arnie or the Rock but he could lift, body shape does not always reveal true strength.

I cannot comment on their personal views or fears.
» Impossible to build muscle after 35 or harder? (Go to post)11-09-2017 @ 23:25
No you can make good gains at 35 and 35 plus.

The magic figure where it gets difficult they say from what I have read over the years is 55 plus. Most would say around the 55 mark.

55 plus you might have to settle for maintenance work.

...But hey you could join the book club or take up crown green bowls.

I will lift until I am in my 90's or 101, it might be 40 kilos in the bench by then but I will lift that bar until the great gig in the sky.
» Did school prepare you for life? (Go to post)11-09-2017 @ 23:16
It depends on the school you attended in my opinion.

My school is in a tough working class area, it is even worse today.

The children became :-

Trades in the main :- Builders, Carpenters, Plumbers etc.
Armed Forces :- Mostly British Infantry Army. Most send over to fight silly wars
some were killed.
Her Majesty's Prison and Probation Service :- Quite a few.
Entrepreneaur and Business :- A few.
Welfare Living :- A few.

Now if my school was a private school the picture would be different.Mostly doctors, bankers, lawyers and the RAF would hand pick the potential chiefs of staff and the marshals or even a future PM.

Like anything you get out what you put in, but postcode and background play a large role in this country.
» Olympic bench (Go to post)27-07-2017 @ 23:16
I really cannot see how an Olympic Bench would fit inside a power rack.

I take by Olympic bench you mean a bench press style like a Forza Super Bench style ? Or a Kustom Kit Insignia Bench Press Bench style. These are industry best Forza from the USA and Kustom Kit from these shores in the UK.

These styles are with or without safety arms, and not designed for a power rack. ?

The only benches that should go in a power rack are a flat bench or a adjustable bench or a weightlifting stool, end of in my opinion.

A commercial bench press bench is a stand alone system for bench work.

» would you rather... (Go to post)27-07-2017 @ 22:46
I really think some of you are off your heads.

I could not with any, no way, I rather be a monk than have sex with a women who use to be a man or man who used be a women, what type of choice is that for a red blooded male.....
Some of those Thai-girl/boys are fit by all accounts, not that I have been to Thailand or seen any up close and personnel.

Would you rather be Oliver Read or Keith Moon or Warren Beatty in a past life ?
» How about a job with the BBC, nice studio, comfortable chair....... (Go to post)20-07-2017 @ 23:35
Remember what I said about the licence fee.

A TV Licence covers you to:
watch and record programmes as they’re being shown on TV or live on an online TV service, and
watch and download BBC programmes on iPlayer – live, catch up and on demand.

This could be on any device, including a TV, desktop computer, laptop, mobile phone, tablet, games console, digital box or DVD/Blu-ray/VHS recorder.

They got you. The BBC should now be a commercial company and they can the pay what like to who they like if they have the profits to do so, Mr and Mrs Jo Public should not be forced to pay a old archaic fee that my grandparents paid, and their grandparents paid and now this generation are paying, it is the 21st century, I remember the fax machine, the tape recorder and VHS...please, it is outdated and unfair.

It is the same old establishment links and cosy I got your back.
It lacks impartial objective journalism and the same could be said of the other news outlets.

I get my news from RT (Russia Today) just for a different angle and from other sources. It is a new age and information is changing and how people source it is also changing. No one looks in Yellow Pages anymore for a trade, not many people read newspapers, and in a few more decades the decline of the BBC will be in free fall unless they go commercial and drop the licence fee and re-invent themselves.
These wages are over the odds and grotesque in a country with food banks.

I just come back from deadlifting and I feel more xxxxxxx angry than before.

Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.
Mahatma Gandhi.

Most sports including Tennis are elite sports these days.

To join a tennis club or watch tennis live or football live is silly money.

Celebrity and the so called establishment are amassing wealth in a way that has no precedent in modern times and this due to the mainstream attitude.

"Free Markets"

"Because I'm Worth It"

Whilst our front line forces do not have vital kit.

Austerity reduce public expenditure, pay the DJ 2.2 million !

The BBC is public money.
» How about a job with the BBC, nice studio, comfortable chair....... (Go to post)20-07-2017 @ 09:07
A nurse does a more important job than a DJ or a full of themselves presenter on strictly come xxxxxxx dancing !

If a nurse gets paid £50,000 for their job then fine and the bill is billions then we are going in the right direction, providing we get the tax system right and the celebrity culture sorted out.

I am sorry these presenters are not worth the money, if you think they are then good luck to you, in my opinion you have your priorities wrong and that is why this country is so divided and broken.

I would make sure the tax loop holes are changed in this country and the BBC is made to take adverts and if then the new commercial BBC want to pay the likes of Evans and Campbell silly money for their egos and complete xxxx they talk then fine, I can read a book or watch my sport.

Or we can watch our large TV's and drive our German BWM's and party on and xxxx it and everyone else, I okay I watch love xxxxxxx island.
Lets just keep the revolving door within the elite-perpetual movement of MP's into media, celebrity, business lobbying, the City etc.Let reinforce the value of aims of the so called free markets and the establishment.

It is about balance and fairness, it is simple really.
I want a focus on industry rather than financialism and human greed.

Please do not get me started as I will jump on a train meet the lot of you at a train station and take you all on with my rolled up copy of the radio times.

Che Guevara up the revolution !
» How about a job with the BBC, nice studio, comfortable chair....... (Go to post)19-07-2017 @ 22:56
I do not see it b**ch and moaning.

Sorry there are privileged circles and that goes for celebrity.
It is unified by a common mentality which holds that those at the top deserve their power, status and their ever growing fortunes which is summed up by
"Because I'm worth it" attitude.

This is the mentality that has driven politicians to pilfer expenses, business to avoid tax, City bankers to demand great bonuses while plunging the world into greater economic disaster.

All these things are facilitated even encouraged by laws that are geared to cracking down on the smallest of misdemeanours committed by those at the bottom of the pecking order.

One rule for us, another for everyone else.

You can go really deep on this, Nurses are in short supply in this country, why ? more than likely pay and working conditions, the same can be said for teachers.

If Messi is worth half million a week for his talents in his market then fine, maybe that is a talent and if that floats your boat please pay to watch him, good luck to you. Pay your Sky TV and watch the magic unfold.

If you have a TV in your home you have to a TV licence, like it not, it is the law.

You need to be covered by a TV Licence to
watch or record live TV programmes on any channel
download or watch any BBC programmes on iPlayer – live, catch up or on demand.

This applies to any provider you use and any device, including a TV, desktop computer, laptop, mobile phone, tablet, games console, digital box or DVD/VHS recorder

I do not agree that a DJ or a TV presenter is worth those amounts of money for what they do and most do it part time, plus a licence fee payer has a right to know what the money goes on, this is not production of programmes or films.

As for your opinions on "Free Markets" I do not think it is working any more a new model is required for a fairer and equal society.

Wealth should be spread.

Say what you like I stand by everything above.
