Well done on the log PB, Will. My pressing is a bit hit-and-miss at the moment. I'm expecting delivery of a 2" bar tomorrow, so I can start training axle.

Well written Will.

A 230 dead lift is respectable, as is a 180 unequipped squat.

You don't need a suit, jt!!!

Great pressing Will.

Have you tried a double dip technique on the log?

I think your neighbour would rapidly become apologetic if confronted by a 16.5 stone strongman!

I haven't been to the gym since before xmas and I feel weak! I've had a couple of VERY brief (literally 10 minutes) sessions in a freezing cold garage with just a bike light for illumination with an Argos bar - just to keep myself ticking over! I power cleaned 106Kg and did 5 comfortable push presses with it today. Hopefully back to normal next week.

Looking forward to watching WSM in 15 minutes, even though I know what happens.

I really enjoyed this programme. Some really daft events in the old days!

OD Wilson really should have won in 1990. Running 200m with 100Kg on your back is not a valid strongman event in my opinion. An average man could have beaten OD at that!

I didn't agree with Kaz when he said Magnusson's strength "wasn't that great". It was! Awesome squatter.

The fact that it's a 2" bar has got to make a difference - the grip is less secure, and the centre of gravity of the barbell is SLIGHTLY further away from the body.

The only problem I sometimes have with power cleans is the "catch" at the top, due to a lack of flexibility.

Is that Andy Hawkins?

What's your pb strict overhead press?

Well done on the log PB. 5Kg ahead of me!

You've inspired me to try some platform dead lifts! Today I had a chunky 50 plate under each foot and did 2 sets of 3 with 221. I have issues of slow recovery with dead lifts, but I'll see how I get on. Next week I'll try 222.5 for 2 sets of 3.

Tony, just to clarify - there are 2 Cowdreys. The Cowdrey involved in organising the southern qualifier is called Simon.

In my opinion elimination events should be strength events rather than technical/speed events. Maybe dead lift (230? for reps) and log (105? for reps).

It would be nice to see a couple of lesser used events crop up. Some examples - pole push, overhead rock lift, power stairs, Hercules hold. Otherwise it just ends up being the bog standard - press, dead, yoke, farmer's, stones.
