I'm a strange one Jonny, but you don't need me to tell you that Wink

I like to do the lifting, I don't like belts and straps and other such gadgets. Don't forget I am first and foremost a Buffoon. I was among the last to come down from the Trees, in fact I was still splashing about in the Oceans when some smart alecs were already walking upright. I have hair on my back and my knuckles still just about reach the ground. The relentless march of technology has completely passed me by so belts and straps and suits are well beyond me. In fact, if it wasn't for the risk of being arrested I would be walking about naked, no doubt with a herd of females ( and one Boar ) following closely behind Grin Grin Grin

I would wear a belt for max attempts, if I had one, but I don't think it does me harm to train without one. Strengthens the core apparently, whatever that means.

See you tommorow at 7.30 my friend. I've got a baby sitter watching the kids, so I'll Deadlift and spot you Squatting and bugger off home before she starts claiming overtime Cool

Barbell Curl, 8kg Bar.
48kgx5, 50.5kgx5, 53kgx5, 55.5kgx5, 58kgx5.
Running, 2.6 miles, nice and steady.
Hot sweaty boy.

I just had a Whey and Oat shake and then sneezed and by some miraculous combination of aerodynamics, turbulence, velocity and trajectory I now have Oats all over my face.
Now would be a good time for a shower, methinks.

Supposed to be Deadlifting tonight but I've now arranged to Dead with the Boar at Adlington on Friday, so tonight I'll probably do some barbell curls.

Meanwhile I have decided to set myself some targets for the next 9 weeks so I've got some direction in my training.

My Squat is terrible at the moment so I want a 220kg triple, ass to heels. My Deadlift is coming back surprisingly quickly so I want a 250kg triple and I should make a 150kg triple on the Bench. These are all Raw, I don't even wear a belt but I will permit myself clean underpants Wink

Let the grunting commence.

Very impressive, text book technique in all 3 lifts and massive power. I've never seen anyone Squat that heavy to that depth.

Strangely I do the same on max effort Benches, I end up stamping my feet in some sort of adoloscent tantrum when the bar stops moving !
We both need to work on our technique mate.
I am told your weight should be on your feet and your ass barely touching the Bench, but it's easier said than done.

The Neck is still stiff as buggery Hayden, I can't turn it very far left or right before it hurts. I don't know whats happened to that. I'm thinking some sort of massage might sort it out but meanwhile I'm just trying to ignore it.

Just need pointing in the right direction from some of the more experienced lifters, if you would be so kind.
My immediate goals are hypertrophy and improving my overall conditioning but long term I want strength gains.
Am I better training in higher rep ranges like 8 reps per set or should I stick to 5 reps and move more weight, or something along those lines ?
Any help is much appreciated as I'm a little confused just now and seem to be changing my routine on a weekly basis.

Bench Press, 13kg Bar.
113kgx5, 118kgx5, 123kgx5, 128kgx5, 133kgx3 then another 2 about 30 seconds later.
Felt good tonight, first signs of some strength returning but I'm still far from fit.
Weight 19 stone 9 pounds, 125kg.

PMSL, I knew I was stirring up a s**t storm with that one :-)

I think it's just me, it actually feels wierd to stop half way down and my knees don't seem to like it either. I get no bother at all from my knees going to full depth, but stopping half way seems to bug them. Maybe just because they're not used to it.

Fair play though, you don't get extra points for going below parallel and in a comp it's how much you Squat, not how deep, so I can fully understand training that way.

280kg is scary Jonny, especially after this :

Squat, decided to drop the reps, just for tonight. ( 13kg Bar ).
113kgx5, 113kgx5, 153kgx5, 173kgx5, 193kgx3, 113kgx5, 113kgx5
The 193 was a total grind, very very near the limit. Before this set I planned to attempt a single at 200kg but it was not going to happen tonight.

On the bright side anyone who has seen me Squat will vouch for my depth being about a foot below what is required, my ass really is on my heels. I could probably Squat a ton more if I stopped half way down like you guys Tongue Tongue Tongue
