Shoulders today!

Legs and back were killin me so again, wasnt too hopeful for any PBs, but I was sick of being stuck on 120 for like 3 weeks.

Started with overhead press with the olympic bar.
60 - 8
80 - 8
90 - 3
100 - 3
110 - 1
120 - 1
122.5 - 1 (NEW PB, GET IN!!)
95 - 8

Incline dumbell press:
45kg - 8
45kg - 5
40kg - 8
I usually do 3 sets of 8 on the 45s and a set of about 5 on the 50s, but i put alot of effort into the overhead press and the gym was boilin hot which didnt help! Happy non the less!

Dumbell side raises:
22.5kg - 8
22.5kg - 8
20kg - 8

Traps next.

Reverse shrugs:
150 - 10
160 - 8
160 - 8
Front shrugs:
180 - 8
185 - 8
185 - 8

Overall buzzin from this weeks gym sesh, with 3 PBs in 3 days and an awesome bench session!

Any tips?

Deadlifts today, was hoping to set a new pb, but after squats yesterday I wasnt too hopeful!
Also trying to work on my grip for farmers walk and such, (NS) means no straps.

60 - 8 (NS)
100 - 8 (NS)
140 - 8 (NS)
160 - 5 (NS)
180 - 3 (NS)
200 - 1 (NS) nearly dropped it!
220 - 1
245 - 1 (NEW PB BOOOM!)
dropped to 180
180 - 8
180 - 7
180 - 6

Was a tough session, felt like I was going to die, but over the moon with finally getting over 240, which i've been stuck on for about a month now. CMON 250!

Any advice? And is it normal for my legs and back to hurt for a good 4 days after ive trained them!?

Legs today, had to train on my own as my training partner whimped out.

Started wigth squats as usual:

60 - 8
80 - 8
100 - 8
120 - 6
140 - 5
160 - 1
170 - 1
175 - 1
180 - 1 (new pb, 175 was my best last week)
dropped to 140
140 - 5
140 - 5
140 - 8 ( was going to be my last set but thought i'd do another)
140 - 5

Happy with how the squats went as im not long back training legs due to knee op.

Was planning on doing some leg press but the machine was taken so went straight to leg extensions.

level 15 - 8
level 16 - 8
level 15 - 8
level 15 - 8

Cant do much on the leg extensions as it still causes quite alot of pain around the knee cap.

Overall happy with the PB and squats.

Anything you can see that i might be able to change for more results?

Just had an email off Worlds Strongest Man competitor "Laurence Shahlaei" confirming that he is still free to attend the competition as a guest referee, and also sign autographs and have pictures taken. I am also in talks with another worlds strongest man competitor who should be attending!

Had the best chest session since I can remember, not drinking at the weekend has done wonders!

Bench:
60 - 8
100 - 5
120 - 4
130 - 3
140 - 1
147.5 - 1
155 - 1
160 - 1
dropped to 140
140 - 3
140 - 3
140 - 3
140 - 3( with a spot on the last).

Over the moon with that bench sesh.

Incline dumbells:
50kg - 8
50kg - 6
50kg - 6

Cable crossovers
Level 7 - 8
Level 7 - 8
Level 7 - 8
Level 7 - 8

Finished with a drop / pump set on the pec deck,
20 reps non stop on level 15.

Like I said, over the moon with how this sesh went.
Please point out anything I can do to improve my workouts or any other form of feedback!

cheers,

Alright everyone,
Starting my journal today! Thought it would be a good time as I quit drinking last week and have managed to get back to rugby training a couple weeks ago after snapping my ACL, which took over a year to get over, with the waiting list and the op itself.
My main aim is to put on some weight for rugby and to gain overall strength.
Im currently 13.5 stone 5ft9ish, 21 years old.
Im aiming for 14+ stone bodyweight, 270 deadlift, 130 overhead and 170 raw bench.

Current stats:
13.5/14 stone
160/170 raw bench
240/270 deadlift
120/130 overhead

Monday: chest
tuesday: rugby training
wednesday: legs + deadlift
thursday: back
friday: shoulders.

The weights are the weights. I didnt think people would kick up such a fuss about a fun charity comp. I know some people will be able to rep 160 easy, as i can myself, but there is also several people who cant. Iceman is welcome to take part in the comp, as it would be good to have a few strong lads competing aswell. End of.

Cheers, sam

Apologise to anyone who mistook the comp, but its the first i've organised. The weights arent massive as there has never been a strongman comp take place where I am from and there are several local lads who want to take part, so im trying to make it at a level where more people can take part.

Cheers again, Sam.

Hi,

I am hosting a charity strongman event on 23rd July 2011 to help raise money towards Everton in the Community. Everton in the Community is an award winning registered charity that delivers a range of programmes to promote health, education, social inclusion and equality of opportunity across the country using the power of sport.
... Their aim is to instil confidence in people, by creating routes into education, training and employment, and steer them away from crime and anti-social behaviour. The Community also runs a wide range of programmes for people with disabilities including wheelchair soccer schools, deaf, blind and visually impaired teams.

“Oswestrys Strongest Man” will be held on 23rd July 2011 at the Oswestry Rugby Club, Park hall, SY11 4AB.

As well as the main event there will also be a bar, a BBQ, a raffle and several stalls offering information on local sports clubs, health and nutritional advice and sports massages.

We are also offering the opportunity for local businesses to sponsor an event in the strongman competition.
Sponsorship is £25 per event. This entitles the sponsor to advertise their business at the event with billboards and posters etc. Also, before each sponsored event the business sponsoring will be announced over the PA.

‘Oswestry’s Strongest Man’ will be judged on several events. These are:
• Deadlift for reps (using an Olympic bar) – Weight to be confirmed
• Overhead Log Press – Weight to be confirmed
• Farmers Walk – Weight to be confirmed
• Truck Pull (18 tonne scaffold wagon)
• Tyre Flip - Timed over distance
• Loading Race

Official registration will take place at 9am on the day. Competitors will be weighed and placed in their designated categories.

Please either email me at oswestrystrongman hotmail.co.uk or message me on the event facebook page, or my personal facebook account.

If you are interested in taking part in this event please message me beforehand with your name, age, weight and any experience you have in strongman competitions. Please also include your deadlift, bench press and overhead press PBs (personal bests). This will help me place people in categories with people of similar strengths.

There is an entrance fee of £12 per competitor. This will cover the costs of prizes, expenses and help raise more money for my chosen charity. Spectators enter for free, but donation buckets will be present if you wish to make any contributions.

Due to demand from several rugby clubs in the area we will now also be hosting a Tug of War competition in the afternoon, after the strongman competition. 5 people per team. Anyone welcome, teams will be registered on the day

Thanks,

Sam Martin
