Surely it hasnt come to this , last year was a massive step in the right direction for strongman in Wales , great venue and good coverage , to go back to comps in car parks or ind units would be a big mistake imho , does the parc scarlets venue rely on Gibbys inolvement or could someone else step in and run the national comp?

Also has anyone spoken to Simon johnston about this , thought he was inolved in running the Welsh this year ?

tbh Chris, car parks is were it all started...i agree with you thoughts on what happens last yr but imo and others it was glamourised to much, money and fame driven.
We now have to make do with what we got since hubby has disapeard.
I with the help of both Simons have nailed a tidy venue For my weight cats...if no one has a problem with it il speak with the gym owner and see if he wants to host it,but in not running it...

No offence intended at all Rick. Just from a personal perspective, wining the title of the strongest man in my country would top a winning a qualifier for a another comp. That's just me though.

lol , just because it started in car parks doesnt mean its got to stay there Happy

I really cant see the problem with the competition getting more glamorous , the more exposure the better for the sport.

As above has anyone spoken to Simon J yet and had it confirmed that the Welsh is not going ahead? Is he back in the country yet?

Yeah absolutely , but if the chance of a stadium venue is still on the cards its got to be better.

Well in future is there any reason the two comps could not be combined in to one massive festival of strength?

agreed mate but have U got around 1400 to get the camarthen show grounds...gibby has left the sceen, left it to run as its always been don.by the competitors them selfs...we don't have the resouces in Wales to get a big flash venue and if you ask most they will be happy in a gym carpark,as long as it happens..

I'll say again,if you guys want,I'll ask the guy hosting my comps does he want to host the opens.bit in not running it!

Ill compete anywhere Ty , but it does seem that the existing comp/venue is being written off without any confirmation , agreed the main thing is that the national competition goes ahead , its a shame if Gibby is completely off the scene , its all well and good saying that competitors have always run the comp but having a promoter who wasnt competing was better for the image of the sport imo , a lot of spectators have a hard time understanding how someone who is competing in a comp can be allowed to have involvement in running it , the trouble is finding someone who doesnt compete with enough interest in the sport to go to the effort of running a comp.

Some promotors stay and some go... its hard work putting on a comp.

I think bring things back to basics in Wales is whats needed. To many people try to run before they can walk. Car parks and unit as locations are great if the time and effort are put in to make it a success.

If you qualify then you get the TV coverage. Wales Strongest Man does not need a big venue or TV... it was painful to watch last year. Let the comp standard progress naturally and stick to the basics.

If Mark is offering to put on the comp let him, no one else is stepping up, and time is running out.

Too big and too flash..... Not worth the money or the time spent on it.
