Hi mate, the Bournemouth YMCA is a cracking little gym, decent power rack, bench and enough bars and weights to keep you busy.

Let me know if you need a number or anything.

when you say "PL friendly" do you mean they allow you to use chalk, scream and wear suits? I agree with this, but also I'd like a gym where there's much stronger lifters than me (unlike at the university gym), do big guys train at these places? Cheers

What uni are you at?

Apart from strengthtec and Samsons not that many beasts train at the other gyms although there are some strong guys about off course.

southampton

Maybe we have different defintions of "beasts", but somewhere that has guys squatting 4 plates + and deadlifting 5 plates + on the regular would make a nice change

Good luck Happy

In southampton area only samsons and calmore will actually have the above happening.

I havn't seen anyone squat over 140kg at St Marys gym! Off course that wasn't too depth.

Need anymore help just PM me. I live in the city centre and actually my PhD will come from Southampton although I studied at Chichester. St Marys Rec centre is run by Solent Uni.

samsons is probably your best bet, they also have a powerlifting club and there are some very, very strong guys there!

that being said ive seen people regularly squatting 4 plates +, and deadlifting 5 plates + at area 51

Yes Samsons has a good rep. If you have a car or live close to station def worth chekcing out.

At Area51 I think I've only seen 2 people squat 180 to PL depth at Area 51 and 1 person pull a 5 plate pull either. Not been since feb, and regulary since last summer, but apart from that trained there since its been open (moved from Kingsland gym). Maybe some stronger guys have started to train there Happy

St Marys Rec is a decent PL gym although random and were I train now. There is very few people that are even half impressive strength wise that I've seen but pretty decent bars (very good bars but 2 slightly bent) and squat rack is free most of the time Happy Plus loads of plates. At Area 51 tebd to have t hunt down the decent plates of the rigt diamter. Its a good gym mind and well worth popping down.
