Long time reader, first time poster of the forum. I realise the below date is only a week before BDFPA nationals; however this date was chosen to help advertise weightlifing and powerlifting to potentially new participants as well as being a warm up event for those competing the week later.

Dorset Weightlifting and Powerlifting Championship

Aimed specifically at encouraging participation in strength sports; this is an ideal competition for beginners. All proceeds will be donated to the Univeristy lifting club and the Help for Heroes charity

Sunday 13th March

Bournemouth University: Tabolt Campus

Ran by Bournemouth University Students and Bournemouth Weightlifting and Powersports Club

-Weightlifting: Weigh-in 8am-
-Powerlifting: Weigh-in 12pm-
-Entry £10; £5 for single lifts-
Entry forms available from: http://bournemouthbarbell.co.uk/competitions/forthcoming-event...
For further information contact: Adam on 07922619527

Myself and the event organisers would particularly like to use this event to increase interest in weightlifting and powerlifting. I'm sure you all know someone who is a gym rat but yet to take the plunge to compete. This is the event for them. I would be very grateful to everyone who is able to advertise this event in some way.

Kind regards,
Adam Elkins

A few questions:

can one lift equipped or raw only?

Assuming its unsanctioned?

Lifters may be equipped or unequipped. Please take note that the majority of lifters are likely to be unequipped.

The event is BDFPA registered; however not BWLA registered, but Weightlifting will follow BWLA rules.

Lifters planning to take part in the powerlifting should be BDFPA registered.

I hope this clears things up.

Adam is leading a team of Bournemouth University students to run this event in partnership with Bournemouth Barbell.Several of these students have successfully completed Referees courses (BDFPA/BWLA and GBPF).Three have also successfully completed the Level 1 BWLA weightlifting coaches course recently.
The Retreat is really first class as a venue and is close to the main hall and warm up room. All the competition equipment is of International standard with Eleiko Bar and calibrated Eleiko weights being used.Three National and 3 Divisional referees will be present and certificated scales will be used.
Adam is a successful lifter and athlete/rugby player in his own right with a total around 540kg unequipped at age 21 in the 82.5kg class. Most of the others running this event for the second year are powerlifters or weightlifters. At £10 entry you can, if you wish, do both the weightlifting and powerlifting competitions.Weightlifting is first.
Entry forms are available on the BDFPA web site events page.

Again, I would urge members to push any local new-comers/gym rats/athletes towards this event as well as doing it themselves. It will be a great opportunity to increase participation in weightlifting and powerlifting across the region, as well as demonstrating you don't need 400 wilkes to have fun.Grin

Not long away now. Entries are looking good. Will be at least 20 individuals competing across the day. Some first timers as well as experienced individuals rehearsing for the following week.

All profit is being donated to Help for Heroes.

Still a week left to get entries in. Would be great to see some new faces on the circuit, so give a gentle nudge to any gym rats you know. Spectators welcome, enry free but donations encouraged Wink

Entry forms from: http://bournemouthbarbell.co.uk/competitions/forthcoming-event...

Enquiries to myself, Adam Elkins: 07922619527. Email: adam_elkins89@hotmail.com

Ps. Volunteers are always appreciated Happy

Kind regards,
Adam

Last week to get entry forms in: heading towards full capacity in the Powerlifting, lots of space still in the weightlifting.

First timers will be welcomed and all rules shall be fully explained to them.

If you are within the area spread the word to potential lifters.

Depending on interest may be the potential to run a first timers strongman competition at Bournemouth University during May

Attention

Unfortunately due to lack of entries; the morning weightlifting competition, due to start from 8am, has been cancelled.

Apologies to anyone who was planning to come along.

Powerlifting, weigh in from 12, is still on and the entry list is full up. Spectators are welcome.

Look forward to seeing everyone Sunday.

Well done to Adam Elkins who has worked so hard to get everything organised.
The RETREAT is an excellent venue and is adjacent to the main sportshall where the British Unequipped is being held next week.

Like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved today, especially Paul Rees, Alistair Cannings, Steve Tyres, Darren Wilkes, James Lever and all of those who aren't on this forum.

It was a great event with 32 participants overall! With at least half of them being firt timers, which I hope can help the sport grow. The results will be posted up in the next few days.

Approximately £150 was raised for Help for Heroes.

Highlights included Alexandra Williams, 14 years old, breaking British records for her age group and weight class. Vince Minty delivered with some great lifts, 160kg+ bench impressed a crowd completely new to the concept of powerlifting.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the British; where I'm sure we could use some extra hands for those of you who will have some free time.

Once again, thanks to all.
