You will get American spellings (only), though, it's an American game.

I realize the NYT own it but the inventor was Welsh I believe

In four today, struggled a bit at the start as my first two standard entries gave only two letters and in their wrong place

Welsh-born but created it in America, where he lives and works, as a sort of present to his girlfriend.

I didn't know that bit. I have researched and by all accounts there are 12,000 five letter words and she wheedled it down to 2,500 common ones which they use. And when I say all accounts I actually mean one, the one I read. It seemed reasonable

Correct! Grin

I went to bed before midnight last night though, so have only just done it. A rather lame 5 this time.

Struggled today, got it in six and needed a pen and paper. The pressure was on for the last try but I managed to work out what the last four were and that left only one word that I knew of. Phew !

Sequence now thirty four

Bit grim tonight, all was well up to the 110 when things felt heavier than they should. Did five sets at 120 last week but not a hope in hell of that tonight so I did 125 in the name of progress and called it a night. Not really sure why this happened, I need to ponder

Wordle in four today, first two attempts were miserable but the third was inspired, not sure what by, but it was

4 for me too, which was disappointing because my opening word gave 3 correct letters.
AvatarFatpete
Wordle in two today, first attempt gave the first letter and one other, then a good long think and bingo, second guess got it

Well done. A par performance from me.

A big dose of luck to be honest. I knew the letter I didn't know the position of was unlikely to be last so that made it either second or third, so I picked a word that had the correct first letter and the other known letter as second plus three letters I hadn't used yet .
This would establish the correct position of that letter and hopefully give a few more clues as well.
Total fluke that it turned out to be the correct word

Friday, 13th May, start 16:00

Deadlift, very raw
60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5
70 x 3
80 x 3
90 x 3
100 x 3
110 x 3
120 x 3
130 x 3
140 x 3
150 x 3
160 x 3
170 x 3
180 x 3

Used the weightlifter's Eleiko weights and loaded them in true weightlifter higgledy-piggedly style so I rarely had more than a rough idea of where I was up to or what I was lifting and it all worked out quite well. The 170 was a tad slippy in the hands but a bit of chalk sorted that with the 180. The first one of the 180s was very backy and with not enough leg - "s**te" was the term Jeff used but the final two were much better. Swings and roundabouts, what you lose on the squats you gain on the deadlift. Interesting conversations tonight and good news from afar where one of our chaps is on a squad.
