Taken my dohg max deadlift from 170kg to 220kg as well doing this which I think has helped hook strength. Another good shout. Cheers...

balls one size too big Member 338, 604 posts SQ 175, BP 130, DL 210515.0 kgs @ 100kgs UnEq | The only thing that has worked for me so far is long holds at the top of the lift. Tried pinching and grippers etc Use regular doh grip until you cant, switch to hook & then just hold out as long as you physically can on the last rep of each set. I can now hook grip what ever I can deadlift - which isn't much, but still, the grip training worked at least.

I may just try hooking till my back recovers. It's a FB Video so IDK how to embed it here but the video is near the top (or check the videos section) labelled "Check out this video by RTS Coach Mark Robb on hook grip technique for deadlift.": https://www.facebook.com/ReactiveTrainingSystems/ Turn the volume up he's got quite the monotone drawl!

some nice relaxing jazz. Member 77, 12599 posts SQ 265, BP 165, DL 280710.0 kgs @ 93kgs UnEq | As regard thumb health and volume I go by ear. If thumbs look close to going I'll get the straps on. Or if the hook grip is tired and struggling I'll get the straps on

I eat a lot of meat Member 5124, 2997 posts SQ 245, BP 130, DL 275650.0 kgs @ 105kgs UnEq | I saw a video of Tessa Urbank explaining how to hook grip on George Leemans youtube... I liked the idea, tried it, and within 2 weeks pulled my current 1RM with it. Love it.

31.6 and Obese !! Get in.... Member 869, 1355 posts SQ 320, BP 200, DL 310830.0 kgs @ 97.5kgs Eq | Cheers for all't advices... Managed a 180kg with it before carrying on with straps which I've not pulled with in years. Thumb did hurt like f**k but I'll do 200kg next week and just keep on upping it till hopefully its not an issue.

Sports an extremely muscular arse. Member 38, 6253 posts | Might need to try this as I hate mixed grip, feels like a disaster waiting to happen. I can Doh 200 on a decent bar, so hook shouldn't be too rough to learn.

Do it - your biceps will love you, your back won't torque and best of all you'll look f**king cool pulling like an Olympic lifter.

Always felt i can transfer more power DOH so this is worth trying i think. Just starting a 9 week peaking phase so will get plenty of practice in at lower weights for a time.

no longer the Swiss Deadlift record holder Member 3517, 3368 posts SQ 182.5, BP 122.5, DL 255560.0 kgs @ 90kgs UnEq | I've thought about it for a while and now I'm jumping on the hook grip deadlift bandwagon. I already use it for what little weightlifting I do, but heavy weights is another matter. I'll be pulling twice a week (light/heavy) and I really really hope the pain will ease up after a few weeks.

Pulled 250 today and zero pain, just feeling a little odd still but can really seem to get into a better position and engage lats more.
