Member 5205, 118 posts SQ 130, BP 115, DL 200445.0 kgs @ 107kgs UnEq | Ive read alot that 5x5 is one of the best set/rep schemes for strength. My question is would 8x3 get the same results? I mean bar 1 rep the volume is the same and you should be able to handle a bit more weight. I dont know much about training and wonder what is the real diference between 5x5 8x3 6x4 etc? I understand high reps are more for hypertrophy, but when the reps are lowish (under 5) is there any diference?

a dirty sumo cheat Member 5573, 82 posts SQ 162.5, BP 100, DL 180442.5 kgs @ 72.4kgs UnEq | There is definitely a difference, getting the lifts in (personally) is more important than the specific scheme you put in place. If you enjoy one more than the other you'll progress better on that scheme.

Still got a little bit of strength Member 400, 22081 posts | 1x1 If I was doing something like 5x5 (I wouldn't due to laziness) I probably wouldn't use a fixed weight. The weight would slightly decrease over the sets.

Uk limbo dancing champion Member 2666, 6551 posts SQ 202, BP 170, DL 255627.0 kgs @ 88kgs UnEq | both. do 5x5 start with a comfy weight add weight each week until stall/fail then still up the weight next time but drop to 8x3 until that fails then either reset back to 5x5 or do 5x3 then repeat

my buttocks hurt Member 337, 2119 posts SQ 300, BP 140, DL 305745.0 kgs @ 125kgs Eq | Do what you like but do it consistently and for a long time. That, plus the usual things about recovery, will make the difference. When it stops working, re-evaluate.
