Sentences are

"sorry"

"say again"

and

"I don't always hear that" (pointing at the phone which has a whistle sound for this)

last night we were talking about grouse - shooting season. We were all aware that it started on the "glorious" 12th August, but none of us had the faintest idea when it finished.

We do now - December 10th

Friday, 15th August, start 16:10

Deadlift, very raw, me on one block, bar on floor
60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5
60 x 5
100 x 5
140 x 3
170 x 3
190 x 3
190 x 3
190 x 3
Not the warmest of days outside but very warm inside, sweated up a storm with relatively trivial weights tonight. Watched Andy and April do weightlifting things, April did a new pb clean and jerk but she made very hard work of it, her best lift of the night was the heaviest which suggests that the weight doesn't matter but what is in her head as she tries to lift it does. I have known that for years but it isn't often one has it as ably demonstrated as it was tonight. Chicken and chips for tea and channel four racing tomorrow. Low adventure, high rest weekend is planned. I can only take so much excitement when all is said and done.

Popped along to Adders to watch Aaron and Joe do "death by bench press" same weight for both - 75kgs. Aaron first did thirteen full sets and seven of the last set, Joe then did nine full and also seven of the last. That sounds closer than it actually is as Aaron did double the reps Joe did. Personally I don't think bench press is a suitable exercise for "death by" but they did. It was fun to watch but deadlift is for me.

Why would you do death by bench press by would can do death by deadlift?

Oh wait... You could actually go both in a session!!! That's is an idea

Is thirteen sets on 75kg any good...?

Will Aaron improve on that...? (Assuming it isn't fantastic which I don't know)

I think it is. "Death by" is a strange thing you go from overconfident to unsure to praying for death in the space of a couple of sets. This was after all his first attempt.

I doubt if he will try to improve, Aaron is a very talented bencher, he does it a lot anyway. He only did this because he is going a way for a week next week. I don't think "death by" fits in with his long term goals.

Indeed it does. In just about every way. Joe was wonderfully over-confident, right up until the penultimate set when he did the slowest reps I have ever seen him do. If the writing wasn't all the wall with that set, it never was.

This sounds like it was fun actually...

Monday, 18th August, start 17:00

Tbar row, very strict
30 x 10
40 x 10
50 x 10
60 x 10
70 x 10
80 x 10
80 x 10
80 x 10
These felt pretty good tonight, so I opted for a couple of extra sets rather then any extra weight.

Pulldown to chest, very strict, wide grip
50 x 10
60 x 10
70 x 10
70 x 10
70 x 10
70 x 10
70 x 10
Regular gentle readers will know that I always enjoy these but I particularly enjoyed them tonight. They just felt real smooth.

Flyes
14 x 10
14 x 10
16 x 10
16 x 10
18 x 10
20 x 10
I felt like a bit extra tonight, normally it's two sets with the eighteens, the twenties were a bit of a surprise, but they were good enough

Death by deadlift, 100kgs
11 + 1

I knew after the ten there would be an eleven and it would be hard and there would not be a twelve. I was going to give up after the eleven but Rick said to do an extra rep for a pb so I did. To be honest I could have done another rep (but not a third) but I didn't want to. Now the interesting bit. After the eleven I was huffin' and a puffin' in a manner that the big bad wolf of three little pigs fame would have envied. I was concentrating on breathing and just stayin' alive. But my recovery was quicker than I expected. I do not say it was quick, but it was quicker than I expected. A set of twelve may be some way off, but by the Lord Harry, I feel better for all this. DrRick did a good thing when he brought this to our door.

Wednesday, 20th August, start 17:00

Squat, raw, knee sleeves on
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
belt on
60 x 5
60 x 5
100 x 3
140 x 2
160 x 2
180 x 2
200 x 2
220 x 2
180 x 2

Hack squat
110 x 2
130 x 2
190 x 2
210 x 2
230 x 2
250 x 2
260 x 2
270 x 2

Felt good again tonight, the first 220 felt well deep which surprised me, the second one was less deep but still "in" Handsome Jeff assured me. The 180s that followed were bob on.

I stayed with doubles for the hack squat and look where we ended up, I am fairly certain that this is a pb weight-wise, and it didn't feel has heavy as I thought it would. Well pleased with this tonight.

It is roughly three months to the North Wests which I am committed to, so I should start to formulate some sort of plan as three months sounds a while but it will be here before I know it.

It being a Wednesday Goatboy was taken to Oldham where he was unleashed upon a very suspecting girl number one. All in all, a very pleasant evening. Girl number one is partial to an unleashing, especially of the Goatboy variety.
