I've been trying since 9am to get through to the call centre with no joy, so I'm going to have to do it at the airport anyway which means I might as well try and get through and see what happens - it's £160 to do the name change at the Airport !
I'll get there in plenty of time just in case.

You're probably on your flight now...hopefully not 160 quid lighter!

Update us when you can. I'd love to know what happened in the end!

Would also like to know the outcome. Hope you're enjoying your holiday with £160 to spend on yourself and your son.

For interested parties here is what happened.

I made the decision to approach the Ryan Air desk at the Airport upon arrival and throw myself at their mercy, rather than have the hassle of being stopped in the middle of security.

The girl on the desk was a very nice lass and I am very confident she would have made the necessary changes free of charge, however the pushy muppet who I spoke to at the call centre had made a note on their computers "he has been told he needs to pay for a name change" so there was no way she could make the change for free. I paid the £160 and had to queue to get a boarding pass and was told I would have to find an internet cafe in Salou, do the on-line check in and print new boarding passses for the return trip.

As it happened I am 90% certain the name difference would not have been spotted, the security at East Midlands was very laid back and they took less than a casual glance at the paperwork.

Once in Salou we found an internet cafe, checked in and printed the new boarding passes and guess what, BOTH boarding passes had my name on once again, adding further doubt to Ryanair's claim that it was my fault in the first place - why on earth would I enter my name as both passengers ???

At this point I thought feck it, I'm on holiday, it's their fault and I'm not wasting my holiday time trying to sort this out. We got to the airport this morning and got stopped at the airport security who immediately noticed the mistake and took us to the Ryanair desk. The young lass there simply crossed out "Daniel" and wrote "Lewis" on the pass and stamped it with a Ryanair stamp and that was that !!!
I had actually been charged £160 for 3 seconds work with a biro !!!

If this was to ever happen again I would NOT ring the call centre, the guy I spoke to was very arrogant and pushy and seemed interested only in taking my money. I suspect they are on commission, especially as he wanted to charge £30 to un-check us in when the website says it's only £15 - my pass was correct so he had no reason to un-check both of us.

With hindsight I would either wing it and see if I got stopped or simply approach the Ryanair desk in person and smile sweetly. It only costs £20 more this way and I think there is a much better chance of getting good service face to face than through a call centre - I remain quite certain that girl would have changed it for me if that pushy chap hadn't made a note on the computer system.

To be honest Dan, you did the sensible "Dad" thing and most everyone else would have done the same. Now you know! Hope you had a great time!

Glad you had a nice holiday Dan.

Sorry Smalls didn't notice your reply.
I went to Salou mate, been a couple of times and really like it.
The lad enjoyed it too and we both got a nice bit of sunburn ha ha.
It's only just over 1000 miles so next time I think we may well drive it, my Son fancies it and it would be a bit of an adventure.

Had some great times driving down to the south of France with my family when I was younger, can get hot as f@#k but if your lad can handle it then I'd definitely recommend!
