New training journal.

Time to take strongman a bit more serious & get out of novice

Plan is, put on some decent weight & do heavier comps. Maybe one more novice this year & try a step up next year before im to old lol

Tonight @ T/hall

Not much going on, wrecked ith the cold all week & crazy hours at work but needed to get a move on. So went

Deadlift, warm up, 120 x4, 160 x2, 180 x2, 200 x1, 180 x5

Strict barbell press, bar x10, 40 x8, 60 x4, 70 x2, 60 x4

Log from rack, 40 x8, 60 x2, 60 x2 (felt like s**t)

Box squats, 60 x10 x2 (just to get legs moving)

Shrugs, 118 x10 x2

Not much but feeling it a bit. Deadlift ok but wanted 3 or 4 at 200, legs & back dead from 16 hour shift yesterday so not too bad really.

The hard work starts on sat with events session & no more hiding....

BBC one just now.

Going to look at a program over the weekend, russian masters, ortmyer etc. More reps, bench & pain I think......

If I may offer an opinion, body build, events should be light and fun, high volume

u may offer your oppinion but i wont listen lol.

Events will be fun but heavy, sat 370 tyre, side handle deads, log, keg press, maybe arm over arm & grip hold

Things go better when I have a target to train for & a Peterhead comp in Sept looks a good shout.

Ill add more reps in the gym too so thats as close to body build my fat ass will get.

If it's the comp in Peterhead organised by Steve Evans I'd be wary of entering mate, He has advertised a fair few comps in the last year or so and not one of them has gone ahead, the last one in June was cancelled with less than a weeks notice.

I'd say a better bet would be the dumfries one we both did last year about the same time as Stuart and his crew always put on great comps.

Yeah heard a few stories about strongman Steve. Love the events so Will see what happens.

Stuarts comp would always come first tho cause its the best novice comp in Scotland. Always had a great day at the comp I've done there.

Events, erm what a s**t day! Just felt so tired & weak so had a play instead of what was planned.

Frame carry, 160kg x20m, 200kg x20m (8.4sec)

Axle warm up, bar x10, 50 x6, 50 x6
Log 80kg a few reps & 90kg clean & s**t attempt at a press

Messed about with a 180 shield, trying to lift from floor but NO

A few reps of deadlift, just cause it was there (180kg)

Think thats all folks. Need a holiday lol

Back in the gym tue/thu so more reps going in now. Looking forward to it.

Not much to report recently. Work killing me just now x& feeling burnt out.

Tue late to gym so,
Rear delts, 3sets on machine
machine bench, 60 x10, 80 x8, 100 x4 x2
Bench, 60 x10, 80 x6, 90 x1, 105 (epic fail)

No more time

Sat,

Axle bar x10, 50 x6 x2, 70 x2 85 x2, 95 x1
One poor attempt & one flip of 370 tyre
A power of bulls**t chat & not much else lol

plan going bad. Holiday in 3 weeks so hanging on till then.

Rear delts, 3 sets of 10

Floor press, 60 x10, 100 x4, 120 x1, 100 x6

Strict press 40 x10, 50 x8, 60 x6 x2

Chest press machine 60 x10, 80 x8, 100 x2, 80 x8

High incline smith 70 x4, 70 x6, 70 x4

Bench 60 x10, 70 x5 (triceps destroyed on 5th, plan was 8)

Gunz & done

Better workout today & feeling that triceps been worked hard for a change

Yesterday @ Fraserburgh

Decided to do a comp that was too heavy for me but hey u need to get out your comfort zone so u get the kick needed to push on (well thats the plan)

First up, max log.
Opening lift was 100kg way above my max but log was fairly thin & felt good in the warm up. Result NO LIFT. All over the place at the top & couldnt balance, outside pressing is a different thing.

Second, tyre medley. 3x330 & 3x380
First up after log & worried lol. went ok, got first 3 fairly easy & managed a flip of the 380 tyre. Happy with that & a PB lol

Third, deadlift (kangoo van)
No chance, looking back feet all wrong & trying to pull with my back. ah well

Fourth, arm over arm (7 ton truck)
Normally decent on this & second to go. was worried about getting it moving & should of been. Insane pull, too many things to mention but got 3.1m. winner only managed half way so looking back it was decent enough. Heavy & couldnt feel my fingers for about an hour after it

Fifth, 70kg dumbell
Massive bit of kit. Rubbish presser & thought about sitting this one out. Decided to give it a go for some stupid reason. managed the clean which is more than i expected. then just stapled to my shoulder

Last, stones
Only thing that pissed me off on the day. first stone was 125kg & should get that everytime. was a hot day & had a tacky disaster, would of been better with chalk as the tacky was like oil. No chance of moving anything with that & serious lesson learned.

Had a great day even though I prob shouldnt of been in the comp but maybe the kicking Ive needed to have a good winter. will be back next year if they have it & wont be last place this time. Met some top guys so was worth the visit.

Good on you for stepping up, the only way to improve in my opinion is to have a go at the higher level comps to spur you on for the next one.
