I have a Theragun Elite and it was more than worth the money. I bought two of the cheaper imitations and burned out the motor on both of them.

Figure out if you want a vibration massager or a percussive batteringHappy

Vibration massager are great for lactic acid and general doms relief. Its something you could use on the sofa during a movie and more akin to a massage. You don't dig these in hard, you let the massager vibrate. Hypervolt a well known brand.

Percussion massager move up and down like a reciprocating saw action. You've to dig into an injury like an exploring thumb. They pummel out knots and tightness. They have a longer stroke than a vibration massager so the end can build up momentum to strike the knot over and over at speed. Its a 16mm action on percussions machines vs 10mm max on a vibration, if you're trying to figure out if a cheap one is a Percussion or a Vibration.

Electrical stimulation therapy (like the ones people put on their stomach) and acupuncture pens are good alternatives to both that you could watch a movie while using. I got one of these https://www.djoglobal.com/our-brands/compex for my back. Very happy with it. The charger is huge, but the pads and controller are something you could wear making dinner.

Outside of marrying a wat pho qualified Thai spa owner, best thing I found was a hard rubber dogs ball and rolling about on it - tried a gun thing once and found it quite ineffective. Also, PL and SM has a lot of posterior dominant movements so unless someone can apply it there you’ll not be able to do much. a dog ball otoh - you can properly get into the erectors, traps and glutes and a fair bit of weight just lying and rolling about on it

Get a jigsaw and those massage attachments. Boggles my mind why people spend loads of money on a massage gun that will tickle you when you can get a jigsaw that is way more powerful and cheaper. I tell this to people and then they tell their physio/chiro/osteo etc who then gasps in shock and then the person buys said expensive massage gun. I'm sure the ones that are 500 quid are good but they still won't be as powerful as a 30 quid jigsaw.
