No training at all this week, my uncle became terminal and family stayed at his bedside day and night for several days. He finally lost his battle with Cancer on Tuesday morning.

The CHASE comp on Sunday will now be dedicated to his memory - Roger "Bill" Lamport.

See you all after the comp!! fingers crossed - (Plan - dont come last, dont fall down!!).

What a fantastic day as both comp organiser and competitor. The best CHASE CHARITY CHALLENGE yet...

For my journal though- heres my excellent and very proud performance....

NOVICES

EVENT 1 - Axle Clean and Press 100kg in 75sec

I got 7 reps and won this event - great start, if I had more time I couldve done more...!! Most people got 3-4, one guy got 6.
First place after one event

EVENT 2 - 15 tonne truck pull harness with guide rope

This event was changed from the hand over hand pull I had been training for. I hve never done this before and my technique was rubbish....
Fortunately there was an incline on the course meaning no-one finished the course and therefore time was not important. I managed to force a few extra inches through brute force and ignorance, meaning I got 5th place

Knocked into second place after 2 events

EVENT 3 - Fingals Finger 5 reps, in the fastest time

Found this really easy, could easily clean it to full extension, and being tall had very little work to push it over. Came second in this event

Pulled back into joint first place after three events

EVENT 4 - Medley (load 60kg barrel- 25meters- onto barrow, then back to collect 80kg metal block, 25meters to barrow, then barrow all the way back 25 meters)...the barrow already had one barrel and one block in so it was pretty heaavy by the end.

Took advice to jog steady with the barrel and block then sprint inbetween, felt like I still had plenty of air in my lungs when i took the barrow - good speed. Think I was third on this

Back into second place after four events

EVENT 5 - Car deadlift

This was a vauxhall corsa on a frame, figured about 200kg in hands, but it felt lighter... I knew that the deadlift was going to be my worst event (as its my weakest lift) and that several of the guys were really good deadlifters. I thought I might get 4-5lifts but really wanted 10. Several guys got under 10 lifts, but one pulled 26 reps I think.

I was second to last to pull, and I got 15 reps in 75secs which got me 5th or 6th place. Pure anger and adrenaline. I was thrilled to bits with this, even though I know it wasnt a winning performance, I busted my personal bests out the window!!! I have learned, retrospectively, to use my advantage here. i didnt even watch the other competitors, and had no idea how many reps were needed. As it turned out - one guy got 16 and one got 17, if I had known this I might have found one or two more.....I was so focussed, I stopped thinking strategy...This is a lesson learned, I had the advantage of going (almost) last...should have used it!!

As there were 5 points between second and third, I had a bit of leeway. So even though I placed down the field a bit on this one, I still ended in a pretty good place.

Second place overall

Andy Porter took a well deserved win after a confident and consistant performance and I am overjoyed with my placing. I felt great throughout and only lacked in the deadlift and in some technique for the truck pull. A great learning curve.

Nice to get a medal from my cousin (whos dad, my uncle bill, died this week and to whom we dedicated the comp) and to raise over £4,500 for our charity.

I CAN NOW MOVE UP TO THE INTERMEDIATES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Grin Grin Grin Grin

Now need to work on the deadlifts...!LOL

Nice write up mate and good effort!

You must be chuffed with that amount of reps on the deadlift.

Absolutely made up - in fact, though it was my worst placing, I think I was most proud and pleased with the deadlift!! (although winning an event, which is a first for me, was great too!!!).

Stretches to finish....

Back is absolutely knackered..... Hope this new way of training deads will help, certainly seems to exhaust my lower back muscles....!! Still using proper form on the lighter reps but resorting to my poor, "straighter legs, all back" form on the heavy ones!!! Really hard to re-learn something I have done like this for so long...Still- keep trying I suppose..!
