Went to the open comp at Muscle Inc, Haslemere, Surrey on Sunday to help with the setting up, loading etc and took the opportunity to train whilst I was there. PRESSING push press 60x10 80x5 100x3 120x2 127.5xf, xf, xf, xf,xf just couldnt get the lockout - it is sooooooooo there though...! 120x1 100x5 Bench with woody bands + (for speed) +20kgx 6 +30kgx 6 +40kgx 6 +50kgx 6 Single hand overhead DB press 25x1 each side 35x1 es 40x1 es 50x1 es 50x1 es 50x1 es (I am sooooo going to get 65kg if I do this as the first excercise!!!) Laying tricep extensions DB's ?weight, just four sets until fail Then went to watch the show.... Got to meet Jay Hughes (who was very confused when I said I had been to watch him at Kents strongest Man - it wasnt till afterwards I remembered that it was actually at 2009 Englands I had been to see him...No wonder he was looking at me funny ) and I also got to finally meet Terry Hollands (crikey he's a big fella!!). Was hoping to be confident and cool and get them both to want to come to next years chase comp, but instead got a bit starstruck and just said "hello" and mumbled some nonsense before quietly moving away to stand with the other mortals - thank God for Rob Frampton and the strength tec crew for giving me at least some credibility in the strongman world!!LOL. Didnt stay till the end of the comp - but hear it was a good day all round. | ||

Couldnt walk at all wed and thursday, just back on wobbly feet by friday. Managed to pull off (wobbly) swanky 30th birthday weekend for wife consisting of skydiving, michelin star restaurant, birthday cake from the cake-maker to the queen and then surprise tickets to New York, followed by a picnic the following day where I had arranged for all of her friends to meet and surprise her...!! Still struggling a bit with the balance, but decided to hit the gym Monday for squats (why not as I feel like falling down anyway!!) Squats 60x8 80x6 100x4 120x3 140x3 160x1 140x3 140x3 140x3 (though its not that heavy - it is still very good for me to manage reps at 140kg - I think my squatting is coming on. Ready for 180kg in the next month defo!!) Snatch 60x 4 80x3 90x1 90x1 90x1 Cleans (continental) 90x1 (and 5 presses) 100x1 110x1 120x1 (equal best clean - could have gone 125kg I reckon,but balance was shot to s**t) Seated "nose to close" lockouts on smith machine 60kg x10 x 4 sets for speed. Would have done some grappler press- but gym was too busy and balance was too poor.... | ||

The 65kg dumbell will be real achievement - then its the 130kg pushpress!!!! hopefully this year!! Still cant bench for toffee though.... Same with the deadlift, power is there, but technique is all over the place - comes from trying to change to proper technique after almost 20 years of doing it wrong....its hard to feel comfortable!! Still, thats what training is for!! | ||

On this occasion I did the reps from the shoulder. In competition you sometimes have to go from the floor and sometimes they let you go from the shoulder!! | ||

Unusually for me, I did a bench day today. 85x10 95x6 105x4 120x1 120x1 105x6 (was following a program - felt I could easily have repped the 120). Bench using green no2 woody bands 80kgx10 for 3 speed sets. DB Bench press 35x10x3sets Bench DB tricep presses 25 x10 x 3 sets Done!! | ||

Just not on it. Bench Day 110x3 115x3 120x3 120x3 Bench with Woody bands 60kgx10 speed reps 80kgx10 speed reps 90kgx10 speed reps (though not really fast enough) 90kgx6 , 80kgx6, 60x6 speed reps superset. DB Flyes done very slowly, for full stretches 15kgdbs x10 x3sets supersetted with DB tricep extensions (laying) 20kgx10x3 Finally Floor presses 100x6 120x6 140x6 140x6, 120x6,100x6, 60x6 drop set. Overall, bench is improving - technique is better - all the bench presses were paused on the chest. Think that this is actually helping me with my technique.. | ||

Log Press 82kg x 5 floor to lockout 82kgx 5 floor to lockout 102kgx5 floor to lockout 115kgx1 floor to lockout - this is a 10kg pb, but I cant claim it as a spotter was touching the log, he assures me there was no assistance, but couldnt claim it unless I did it completely alone!!! Deadlift 170x4 170x2 bad back -stopped there.... Stones 80kg x 5 to platform 80kg x 1 to 6ft platform 110x3 to 5ft platform 110x3 to 5 ft platform 110xf to 6ft platform Quite pleased with the event, just cant shake this bad back, every time I deadlift, its agony for days - Its my bad technique - dont know whether to lay off completely or what, but its bothering me all the time at the mo... Anyway, feeling strong, OH coming on well, stones were easy - lets see what next week brings!! | ||
