Trying to think if we've sent any to near to where you are. They've gone to Bristol, Kent, and Worcestershire, not sure which one of those would be closest to you, or if they're all a million miles away Happy If you need any more info just ask, or send me a pm.

chrisjenkins said:I was planning to order the original Texas deadlift bar, anybody have any experience with buying one of these bars? Elitefts & Crains stock both bars but I was wondering what the cost would be to get one shipped to the UK. At the moment I think the only people that have these bars in the UK are Dave Mannering and Dave Beattie.

I bought one off brian @ strengthshop !! worth every penny mate !!

Rob Frampton and Flash both give Brian's bars the nod so I'd call that a pretty good recomendation

Just to clarify, Chris is talking about the Texas Deadlift bars, not the Power Bars. Longer, with a thinner shaft (25mm) and no centre knurling are the main differences.

Here's The Story. I've edited and shortened it slightly, purely to keep too much personal reference/conversation out of it. I find it really interesting hearing about the history of the bar, but in the interests of not causing any conflict, please don't reference this or post it anywhere else;

Buddy (Capps) is a Texas powerlifter who owns a blacksmith/machine shop. He made his first bars in late 1979 because he wanted a good bar. Another powerlifter named Chip Kell worked with him on the design of the deadlift bar. Another Texas powerlifter, Dave Patterson, owns a multi sales company in Irving. They made a deal that the bars would be marketed by Dave Patterson and Mac Barbell. The bars were marketed in 1985 at the USPF National Powerlifting Championships in Irving, Texas. All new Texas Power Bars were used.

In 2000 a Texas Power Bar and a deadlift bar were bought from from Mac Barbell to use in a powerlifting meet. During the meet there was 3 flights and the deadlifting was going fast and heavy. The deadlift bar began to break down and bend. There was concern that they couldn't finish with it. They finally did and it was bent like a pretzel. Their squat bars were also sold but had to be replaced because they would bend. Finally Mac Barbell stopped making the deadlift bars and squat bars. They bought their own knurling machines and wanted to make the bars in shop. The problem was that they could not buy good metal. After that Irondawg Power called Buddy and made a deal that they would distribute his bars. They gave them the name "Original Texas Power Bars". Mac Barbell continues to make and sell a Texas Power Bar of their own. Buddy (Capps) has his own formula for the steel and he has never given it to any one. He guards it like the Coca Cola forumla. Buddy has said that with hind sight if he had known how successful the bars have become that he would have had them patented, but now it is too late.

IN the US several companies offer a "Texas Power Bar", but they are not made by Buddy Capps. "Caveat emptor", let the buyer beware.

From an engineering point of view, with enough info and research money it wouldn't be that hard to produce a bar to equal or better than Buddy Capps bars
