There are 14 competitors signed up now.
The comp will start at 13:00 if it's not raining, if it does rain it will be slightly later.

Sandbag is good idea. Or some kind of crazy medley. I hate farmers hold but I'm up for it.

Thought i'd put some notes down while its fresh in my mind,
the venue is very suited to competition with a large outdoor area and a great indoor setup, bar, toilets and all the rest

1st event van pull - grass was wet and slippy and people werent allowed studs which was ashame as some people could have done much better. i wouldnt have done any better anyway. was happy to move it at all and got about a 3rd of the way but still came last.reffing fine and the whole day ran smoothly everyone knew what was going on and where you stood.

2nd event- 80k log, went first in this and did two reps same as my last comp, havent done events since then so pleased to match it, came joint last though!

3rd event - 180kg axle deadlift. lower starting position than i did at the last comp so only managed ten which meant i beat a couple of people. reffing was inconsistent though in this one with a few miscounts which a few people noticed. also some people were doing touch and go and not really locking them out. apart from this the reffing was excellent all day i reckon. nearly passed out after my eight and was seeing stars too but ive been suffering from that recently

4th event - max 2inch db starting at 40k, only managed the 40, 50 was a jump too far for me, the winner... a latvian guy, did 80 or 85k i think and most guys did at least 60 bar three or four of us. one negative here is that the oly lifting platform was f**king decimated by the dumbell being dropped and i felt a bit sorry for the regular lifters there i can imagine they were pissed off. some of the athletes should have took more care, though that's hard with 70k in the air i suppose.

5th event, medley was binned due to the rain so 90k sandbag over yoke, did 5 reps happy with that. managed to get me out of last place anyway

came second bottom overall, pleased though as i only weighed 84k today. the top 5 or 6 lads were all outstanding, and the winner was top draw pressing that db overhead, looked like he had more in him too.
lessons for me is to not drop any more f**king bodyweight! not disappointed with the low placing as its only a novice comp and i did ok by my standards. thats my first season done now anyway
thanks to james for organising and the two refs/loaders for a good day out!
also to add, there was an oly lifting comp on when i turned up and it was the first time i have seen that done properly in person and there were some f**king awesome guys

Well done mate and good read too , youve got the right attitude regarding novice comps , treat it as a learning experience and dont get hurt or put off , ive only done one comp so far ( placed 17th out of 24 ) and was just pleased that I moved every weight or completed one rep in each event ,Im doing the unit20 novice in sept and hoping for the same , nice injury free comp with the chance to try out some of the strongman toys ( stones , fingers ) Happy Well done again mate Cool

Well done to all the competitors that took part yesterday, there was some excellent performances and plenty of PB's.
Thanks to the refs Craig and Ben, they did an excellent job keeping things moving along. Thanks also to Maz, Julie and the Oxfordpowersports team who helped with everything throughout the day.

I haven't got the whole list of placings in front of me but the top 3 were as follows.

1st Lldars Svikis
2nd Louis Ward
3rd Simon Thomas

Most memorable parts of the day for me were the battle between Louis and Lldars on the DB press and the 21 reps on the deadlift by Scott.

Thanks to James for organising a top competition, and to Ben & Craig for fair and clear reffing, and to the others we didn't see who helped out.

This was a good comp' with a good bunch of lifters and i thoroughlly (spelling?) enjoyed, was happy with third place, finishing the van pull, 11 reps on the log, 16 reps on the axle and 7 reps with the sandbag, wasn't too happy with only a 6okg DB, really wanted 70kg, but this is why we compete, to find out our weaknesses and target them to better ourselves for the next competition.
Also a big hand for the latvian lifter who won 4 out of 5 events and the contest, he was in a league of his own.
