Hi guys.

Does anyone know of any decent gyms in york with weightlifting equiptment? The only one I have found so far is David Lloyd and it is just too expensive for me to afford.

Cheers

hi i live in york and if you are talking about a gym with decent bars and olympic bumber plates that you are aloud to drop from over your head, you wont find one.

if talking about decent gyms with lots of weight plates. ebor fitness or samson and deliah's are your best bets short on space but good equipment.

if you want to try some strongman i train in my garden and have quite a few pieces of kit to play with. shoot me a pm if your interested

hope this helps

Lived there most my life mate and can only think of David Lloyds. I trained there for years. It is a great gym though. Try blag student rate if you can.

Try York university. Think Shaun Clegg did a weightlifting comp there.

Other gyms worth trying although its doubltful the have the kit are

Samson and Delilahs
Emperors
York railway institute
Atlanta
Roko

Not really changed. It had all the weightlifting equipment, bumper plates, platform, good bars, powercage, good benches etc.

Cheers guys. Went into Lloyd's yesterday and they were going to charge like 60 quid a month with a joining fee on top of that, and I would have to sign a 12 month contract, which is useless since I'm not here for 12 months. They gave me the option for a 3 month contract with works out at ~85 quid a month, which is definitely not doable either! The uni gym is terrible, I trained there last year and it is just awful. Going to go along to ebor fitness i think, its a shame i wont be able to drop plates and go heavy on the Wl lifts, but at least I should be able to do some squats, deads and the like!

Ebor fitness is s**te mate. They wont let you do deadlifts, or in fact they will, but you cant drop the bar to the floor, you have to lower it slowly, LOL.

I would go have a look at railway institute gym in town. Recently done out and have some mates who train there who say its decent.

God damn it. Why do they even call it a gym when you can't do any f**king decent lifts properly?

May have to go along to railway institute. Such a mission to find a decent gym here, biggest let down of York.

And yeah, 85 quid, with a like 50 quid joining fee on top is madness. No way I could afford to pay that, just crazy.

x2 on this. Im from York i am, but dont live there no more. I trained this Ebor place a while back and got bollocked for deadlifting, or more specifically for "banging the weights" (i was lowering them pretty gently as it goes).

The owners DAD (age ~60) told me it would "crack the plates"...

When i used to train at Atlanta YEARS ago there was a bird there who was doing full Oly lifts, dropping them onto some mats etc. - i would guess she had her own bar and had cleared it with the management but that might be worth a shout.
