concept 2 guru Member 1235, 4675 posts SQ 190, BP 137.5, DL 220547.5 kgs @ 85kgs UnEq | Does anyone know anything about the talent system for British Weightlifting? I've mentioned it before but I'm coaching a lad who's currently snatching 70 and CJing 90. He's 14 (year 10) and a big lad but only started any kind of lifting in September. Currently I'm the only one who helps him out although I know he's emailed eddie recently over at Mytholmroyd to see if he can do any distance coaching. Does anyone know the kind of standard expected to be recognised and welcome onto the talent program? I've no doubt he's a mile away from some other juniors in the country but would still be good to have a target to aim for.

what is everyone's fran time? Member 3986, 10449 posts SQ 340, BP 200, DL 400940.0 kgs @ 129kgs Eq | There's qualifying totals for championships on the Bwla website, they have totals for the youth championships if that helps but for the talent squads I don't think there is any set numbers.

Thanks mate. There are people in the talent program, I'm just curious as to how they got it. Obviously the first thing for him to worry about is putting up some big ass numbers in a comp!

Your lad is too young for the Power to Podium programme, I'm not sure what the age criteria is for the Talent Programme is. http://www.britishweightlifting.org/news-a-media/item/154-powe... http://www.britishweightlifting.org/world-class-performance/wo... Has he competed yet? The best thing he can do is get on the platform and get some experience under his belt and get noticed. What does he weigh? Just had a look at the results of the British Schoolboy Championships and at his age 70 / 90 would be as good as anyone.

He's a big'un and quite proud of it. we're talking a fair bit heavier than me and 6'1". Lifting is defo a good way to go for him since he doesn't like rugby! Thanks for that info Wigan, I'll look into all possibilities a bit more, thanks! Do you know if he'd be allowed to lift at the youth champs in May or would he need to have qualified?

a cynical old scrote Member 68, 6844 posts SQ 255, BP 132.5, DL 250637.5 kgs @ 110kgs UnEq | First things first is to get him on a platform and see how he does. To lift in the British Youth Championships he would have had to have lifted in his Regional Championship and achieved the qualifying total.
