Yes, I remember the 70s and 80s. I remember the day Elvis died, the Falkland's War, I remember Wonder Woman and Charlie's Angels and Chip and laying in bed on 31 December 1979 thinking about how the next day will be the 80sTongue

Well you got me on remembering Elvis death - I was only 6 at the time and still playing with my lego set! Yeah so many great TV shows around that time - now it's just crappy reality tv and b list celebrity shows.

My old body - well, i'm nowhere near as strong as you, but I do other things to compensate that say i'm ticking along nicely.

That's all that counts really - staying healthy, happy and occasionally reminding yourself of past glories! I'm sure I'll be there sometime too in the next 5-10 years.

Do you have no desire to compete in GBPF?

Only if Rob Rees and David Mills retire or go into another weight class Happy One out deadlifts me by almost 30kg and the other the same on the squat and both over 15 years younger! I'd have to start benching around 230 to out total those two freaks!

I'm not into competition in general - sounds weird I know when you I train like a madman but I enjoy it and it keeps me out of trouble and just about keeps me out of a zimmer frame - then again I may need one soon with this crazy volume!

Not ready for the arm-chair and slippers just yet...

We old timers can still teach the young pups a thing or two.

Armchair and slippers - no thanks - hot baths, contrast showers, stretches, cod liver oil and a good moisturiser for my poor hands!

What was that famous JPS quote - if you can deadlift heavy and have solid s**ts what more do you want in life? I'm still working on the solid s**ts part...

Thanks mate I think you've inspired me to push myself even harder - so I'm going to blame you if I end up in hospital :P

I will take some more vids soon - probably not on max attempts cuz they tend to distract me - but as I'm lifting near max all the time now I may do some next week.

Cheers hopefully this old bod will last a bit longer and I may just get that 220 bench someday. But first I need to get 200 - hopefully in a few weeks time.

I still remember when I started with 60kg and just wanted to get to 100...then got to 100 and thought 140...nah never. 140 to 160 was the next target then 180 was the ultimate pinnacle for a natural lifter I thought. 200 still seems like a crazy weight and 220 is just insane, especially at your body weight.

I loved how casually you did it too - no collars, no wrist wraps, no chalk, no spotters - no problem!

Confidence is a funny thing - when you have it everything comes easily and you never fear missing anything. I'm pretty much in that mindset right now but I'm also aware of how quickly things can change - and that is the real test of strength not when everything is easy. Which is ultimately why I train and I think the real benefits of it apart from the physical strength is the mental strength and confidence it gives you to handle all that other s**t in life that is slightly more complex than lifting perfectly balanced weights over and around your body!

Far too philosophical for a Friday!

You call yourself Aquarian, so I presume you are one (I am, too).

Yes I'm an Aquarian - with all the good and bad tendencies! Hello fellow water bearer! It's good to meet another one with the same interest!

Does this mean you believe in horoscopes?

Not in horoscopes so much but I do think there is some truth in Astrological personalities and tendencies. But I'm not religious about it or anything - have met quite a few Aquarians who despite having some obvious similarities have taken a very different path in life. A good mate of mine from the gym not only is an Aquarian but also born on exactly the same day as me 14th Feb - talk about coincidences. He competed recently in a GBPF meet - see what I mean about taking different paths in life Happy

Could and should have slept better - nothing new here!

Man it is cold!!! Perfect weather for deadlifting Happy

DL

Warmups

60x10,100x6,140x3,180x2,220x1 - all ok.

Working Sets

240x2,250x2,260x2,270x2 - all fine

280x1,1 - First rep was piss easy, 2nd done about 90s later bit tougher

290x0.9 - About 3in from lockout. I think my upper back wasn't tight enough and the weight got slightly too far in front of me. Grip was fine.

HBBS

Had to do all but 1 set in one of the other 2 racks which aren't easy for me to squat in as the catches are either too high or too low and very deep too - making anything over 140 a b**ch to unrack and rack.

20x10,60x10,100x4,140x3,180x2 - pain still there in the right hip but by coming down geriatric speed and not coming up too straight it wasn't as bad as last time

200x2(loose belt) - managed to jump into my preferred rack and do a quick double with this. 2nd rep I almost paused it and came up real slow.

After this did some benching with the bar, 1x20 close grip, 1x20 regular grip, 1x20 wide grip to get some blood flowing there. Close grip was fine but wider grip got more painful as the pec minors were still sore. Gives me hope that close grip will be ok in 2 days time pec-wise at least. Elbow has been getting better with the elbow sleeve on so hopeful it will be ok.

Did some foam rolling on the hip - effing painful but hopefully it will help.

Not too bad - slightly disappointed with missing the 290 but was possibly a bit fatigued and a bit loose technique wise. Squatting was encouraging and I may just able to squat around the 200 mark or so until the pain goes down which is much better than I hoped for last week.

Next up cgbp - hopefully get 185 - and push press 140ish if I can do it without pain.
