The 8s are my 'fault' Andy. They're the early part of a tapering programme designed to get him to peak for the Lancs and Cheshire in May. I also told him that if he keeps running to other people for advice then he could get someone else to coach him, but as yet he doesn't seem to have taken that message fully on board.
I've also told him to focus on the current programme and immediate objectives. Those are lifting raw at the Lancs and Cheshire, which is why we've not visited equipped options yet. He doesn't appear able to maintain that focus either! He may shortly be in the market for a new coach!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Regarding when you get up to 160k id knock your reps down so your could go a little heavier on your next set, that 160x8 for 3 sets is alot of graft and stress on your back but well done because that would of got me puffin like a train!!
A suit would help your d-lift but they dont give you alot, they keep your body nice and tight and stable and make the lift alot smoother thus your able to lift that little bit more!

Now then, now then. Sit up straight and pay attention. I saw something on Monday which I had my doubts about, but I wasn't sure so I said nowt. I asked Joe the Referee tonight and he has confirmed that you are not allowed to use a thumbless grip when squatting. You must grip the bar properly. Safety of the spotters is the concern apparently

I noticed this too at the NW in Colne. I did mention it to Dr Rick but he dismissed it as nonsense - bloody teachers!!
Nice squatting either way mate and great to see you keeping a log on here. LOADS more there yet in the squat, can see some good battles between yourself and Pete coming up in the future.

Actually, as later discussion clarified, a thumbless grip is NOT illegal - it is up to the judgement of the referee as to whether you have full and safe control of the bar. The higher-level the comp, it was felt, the less likely the ref is to permit thumblessness.

Very true Rick, but why take chances ?

Yes we shall superglue thumbs on if need be...
Millsy-It certainly helps squatting with Pete because he's at that higher level its gonna push me and keep that hunger going but in turn it should do the same for Pete

Benched with Joe the terrible,Pete couldn't make it with the bad traffic Rick was squatting and Jeff was in late too.Had to stay light today(again)the old biceps were flaring up and after discussion with Joe and Aaron we've decided the main culprits are fatpetes squats stands...their evil! I've squat in them twice and twice they've shagged my arms so in the rack for me next time at adders
Might miss the deadlift this week let my arms rest hopefully setting me up for a fresh week next week...fingers crossed!!

Fat Pete's squat stand are evil, and yet utterly lovely in an evil sort of way. I have never had a problem, but then again I have the knob of a small donkey and I am a demon at cunnilingus. These two factor above all others keep me pure in heart and safe from the evil that resides in the world.
