This forum never ceases to amaze me. The guy told you he can do these things he gets a coin out of his pocket and breaks it with his eyelid and you still don't believe him. Tisk tisk.

Comp write up

31st july
Kents strongestman (novice class)

Farmers walk 95kg 50m
This was always gonna be my best event but think i could have done better as i forget to breath on the first 25m cos of nerves. Seemed like quite a quick pace but only good enough for 4th.

320kg tyre flips in 60secs

managed 8 flips for joint 4th place lack of conditioning really showed here as after this event i was blowing out of my arse.

clean and press 90kg log for reps in 60secs

Managed 5 reps again my total lack of conditioning really showed, i was taking big breathers between reps, very poor. Not sure of placing but way down.

Deadlift 200kg reps in 60secs

surprised myself with this one, i was aiming for 6 going into it but after pulling 5 straight off i had a quick breather(conditioningUnhappy ) then got back on it for another 3 had another little breather and asked the time keeper the time, i had another 5 secs. Went straight down and grabbed the bar way too wide but still managed to pull it. Happy with 9 reps, not sure of place but i know the winner got 14.

yoke 250kg 25m

Had to drop it half way down the course felt bloody heavy on grass,
not a good time.

Medley: 100kg sled drag,120kg barrell then load 110kg,120kg stone onto flatbed.

not a very heavy sled but on uneven grass and up a slight incline i really struggled managed to finish it but legs were jelly. Took me an age to get the barell 25m i even duck walked it for a bit then staggered to the line with it.
After a very slow stroll over to the stones i managed to compose myself and got the stone up onto my lap but when i went to lift it it just span round(forgot to put tacky on my t-shirt). After a bit of fiddling with it on my lap i got it to the lip of the flatbed but just couldn't get it over. Colapsed on the floor i had nothing left so it was game over.

Final placing 5th.

All in all i really enjoyed the comp but it has shown me i really need to work on my conditioning.

My Hat goes of to all who competed in this it was a brutal comp but everyone gave their all. Highlights for me were Gary Gardener's two flips on the tyre, Dave meer's log press, was like the log was being propelled to the sky by some mystical force. Dean Slater and Gary G finishing all 5 objects in the medley.

Rob Frampton battled through the pain all day after picking up an injury on the first event, unreal determination.

Hope Rich and Simon heal up eand come back stronger.

Think your platform's too high (4"?). 1.5" is sufficient in order to achieve the desired effect, in my opinion.

Will try a smaller platform. I shall get the woodworking tools out in the morning.

Billwest said:I've done them, with about a 4" deficit. I felt they improved speed from the floor when i started doing normal deads again. However, it is a bit of a trade off, because they put a lot more stress on the lower back.

Yeah was hoping for a bit more speed off the floor. Mmmm will have to see how the back holds up. was really concentrating on my form and found it hit my legs a lot harder which is cool as i have spaghetti legsGrin
