don't know the make but it's a specific 27-27.5mm deadlift bar that flexes a fair bit compared to a regular gym bar once there's 250kg+ on it.

its a bit of a romantic notion this whole paleo-lithic mindset and a reactionary thing against the 'pussification' of males that yanks obsess over. truth is paleo man lived a short life and as a hunter gatherer would be prone to periods of famine. certainly wouldn't be eating 6-8 optimum macronutrient meals a day and having a little roar before making some rather arbitrary movements using machined and balanced lumps of iron in a gym. having said that he's an impressive deadlifter. anyone know what his other lifts are like nowadays?

finally bought some 2.5m wraps - 'lilliebridge world record' wraps they're called and also got a slingshot full boar to do as variation to board work. expect a strong wrap like these will take a few heavy sets to break in.

The megatron manifesto would be a highly amusing yet terrifying prospect he's still posting stuff on FB. recently has even posted some videos of him lifting real weights (e.g. 225lb seated press) instead of '1000lb+' deadlifts consisting of 10lb bumpers with '55' tippexed on them.

6/5 genesis still feeling pretty rough with this cold so glad I'd already planned a light one tonight. have to say I really enjoy sessions at genesis, there was a guy tossing atlas stones around like marbles, a slim woman casually repping 100kg squats and two other PLers in deadlift suits doing some max effort pulls off floor against crazy band tension which was cool to see. you aren't going to get that intensity in your run of the mill commercial gym deadlifts from floor, stiff bar + no belt dohg bar x loads, 60 x 5, 60 x 1, 100 x 3, 130 x 2, 160 x 1, 180 x 1 straps on 195 x 2, 210 x 2, 220 x 2, 227.5 x 2 speed deadlifts 165 x 5 x 2 pulldowns 10 x 40, 4 x 5 x 90, 1 x 10 x 75 face pulls 3 x15 x 30 all felt fast and strong but no real energy with this cold. chose speed deads with 165kg as it is 60% of my best pull (275kg) in competition will add 5x2 of these every week now up to euros as I really enjoyed doing them, really make you focus on getting super tight and taking all the slack out before initiating the drive off the floor. here is the last set of my 165kg

peanuts said:Currently squatting once a week, but thinking of adding another couple of squat sessions in per week thus increasing my overall volume of squats per week.anyone had much success by increasing overall squatting volume each week? i've improved massively since doing 2-3 squat/press sessions per week. I can practice the lift more and manage fatigue better. i.e. doing 10-15 work sets on bench across 2-3 sessions means all the sets are done without accumulating so much fatigue trying to cram more work into one session that form breaks down and the lift ceases to be anything like I'll perform on the platform.

Post Edited: 05.05.2015 @ 10:44 AM by matthewvc AMH_Power said:So, I am now at the stage of my lifting where I am breaking my lift down into components: Start strength, explosive strength, limit strength and amortization strength. Naturally I am employing box squats as my means to improve start strength (not pause squats; this isn't start strength as the muscles are already contracted significantly, and can hurt amortization strength). Anyway, what are peoples typical difference between box and normal squats? I know there will be many factors like the difference in technique...but any info is better than none. Thanks I'm quite an inflexible guy and find even sitting on the genesis wooden one which puts me 2 inch below hard work and this impacts the amount of weight I can use as I feel i'm straining a little to reach it. I've not really maxed a squat for a while due to recovering from a hip issue, but I think even in wraps and belt that depth this is taking up to 10% off what I could do to parallel free without pause. for example I did an all-out max 5 reps with 250kg leading into GPC quals to 'decent' depth according to observer at gym. I think 225 for 5 off the aforementioned box would be quite tough. will have a try as an extra set after doing my usual triples/doubles. once you get above parallel on box - even like 1" I find it becomes really easy - e.g hit a comfy 280 for double off a bench about 2" over parallel.

4/5 oop north Last close grip week Will move onto comp grip now Close grip bench paused Bar x loads, 60 x 6, 60 x 1 80 x 3, 100 x 3, 120 x 3, 135 x 3, 150 x 3, 165 x 2, 140 x 4, 145 x 5 Dumbbell shoulders 15 x 15, 22.5 x 12, 30 x 15 Not well today with cold and felt like death warmed up doing this, so no heroics today. Heavy sets not helped with crappy angled rack with cheap adjustable bench they have here. 140 hit lower hooks on 4th rep and unbalanced me. I have to find somewhere else next bank holiday because I can't be at mercy of crap equipment when over 80% max.

thinking about goals for euros based on how I feel atm. total 700kg+ this time actually do some squats not just a token. get closer to true maxes on bench and deadlift, had quite a bit left from reviewing videos in qualifiers. also manage competition day better. no pacing around, wasting energy etc. warmup with better timing. as for prospective numbers based on how I feel right now. looking something along lines of... Squats felt good plenty more to come, 220 low box feels about 85% or so. just need to arrange deadlifts and heavy squat days to be further apart. Bench a little tired after all that but still all explosive. Glute ham raises improving hope this helps squatting a bit.

ran over a cat on a country lane one night while driving 'spiritedly' in my old evo 7 fq300.. but it somehow missed everything, so apart from one of its 9 lives gone, was perfectly fine. |
