Rick | Benching the day after squatting | 21-03-2007 @ 20:15
I am a bench-only guy Member 3, 10034 posts SQ 185, BP 175, DL 235595.0 kgs @ 140kgs UnEq Administrator | Adam mentioned on Monday that he doesn't like to bench the day after squatting, because he finds he gets pain and injury in the either shoulder or elbow, I forget. Do others find this? Does overhead work do it too?

Walk your talk Member 5, 25557 posts Administrator | joe mentioned this at adlington and for me sometimes after heavy squats the 'holding the bar in position' agrivates my dicky elbows.

always lookIng for the extra UT2 work. Member 9, 18279 posts SQ 210, BP 167.5, DL 260637.5 kgs @ 103kgs UnEq | Even 2 days after is a no-no for me. Bench earlier in the week and you will be fine (at least my f**ked elbow was when I did this anyway).

Does f*ck all for SugdenBarbell.co.uk Member 1, 7173 posts SQ 182.5, BP 110, DL 205497.5 kgs @ 107kgs UnEq Administrator | I agree, I prefer not to do so if possible. I have no problem benching the day beforehand. A lot of it comes down to shoulder flexibility, bar height and hand spacing. Also, it's important you remember to push your elbows forwards before you walk the bar out - if your arms are further underneath the bar then its far easier on the joints.

Its much more of a problem for guys who have the bar lower on their backs. For the same reason Rick, I dont think you'd find it much of a problem. It has only ever bothered me when getting the bar really low.
