Lets not compare ourseleves to the "elite" as only 1 or 2 on here are anywher near there
In reality, how many doing the open comps in Scotland/England are over 140/50...not many I'd imagine (although I know that still a big gap...but talking about 180-200kg guys is nonsical, as it doesnt apply to us and our comps!)

I take your point, but if we are talking beyond our own situations.

There is (sometimes) a 105 worlds, there may in future be a 90kg one. Why not one for 120 guys as well?

Where the top 120 guys can face each other on an international stage too, as how many are not at WSM at u120kg?

At Scottish level, as I have said, it is probably less relevant, as we dont have any at that size, but i still favour the general concept.

I probably favour it becase it would benefit me, but this is no different to anyone in another wight catagory supporting the status quo

cant really disagree with it being put on IMO and see 'who' enters and the quality of athlete it brings.

if more comps come of it then so be it if not, atleast it was tried.

Agreed. A one off comp to gauge interest can't harm anyone surely?

Don't have voting rights in this country so I'll abstain. Grin

But it's an interesting question. Some people ask for a "middleweight" class in indoor rowing every now and then (so the 6'/85kg crowd can be shielded from the 6'5"/120kg monsters or something along those lines), and one of the main arguments against it is that it would dilute the sport. Huge difference though: everyone does the same event, and there aren't entire separate competitions set up for each weight class. So on a given day, an additional category would in fact be stealing entrants from the others.

Maybe I've mis-understood:

Im totally for a one off u120 comp if there is a demand for it.

I'm only against the setting up of regional qualifiers and national finals when other existing categories that are already struggling will suffer due to lack of numbers.

IME the crowd love any kind of head to head event, be it heavy OH, deadlift, farmers, yoke, medley etc
Basically Martin, you want an 120 cat (as this suits your BW perfectly), with a return to 1990s WSM tye events (as these are the events you love to watch/participate in)...should we just call it the Bunyan Class? Wink

The trouble a Bunyan class is everyone would have to be super soft, very sensitive and train to have a nice time.

Events could include a minimum weight squat and walking a 1kg dog for distance Wink

Honestly tho martin, there would be nothing to stop you running a comp of that sort and seeing what interest you get. If you leave out a grip event I will be there Grin

And what if there is lots of demand for it once those individual comps are run?

Would you then still be against setting up qualifiers and a final for a class there was a demand for in order to protect another class?

Surely its up to the comp promoters, as to which event and which weight is to feature. Maybe not a case of a completely new weight cat just a shake-up of what events go into an open comp so that might benefit a lighter open competitor and are more varied and less based on max poundage for each event. I.E more endurance events, which are still heavy, power stairs / Deadlift & overhead medleys / throwing events. All of which look cool for the spectators and keep the Athletes interest also.

Tbh I my opinion the worst thing that ever happened to strongman was the Arnolds.
Now I never thought in a million years I would say that but it started the trend for this whole "let's make it hevier" attitude that has become a problem in the last couple of years.
Max deadlift is great, but not every f**king comp, and this whole thing where your now getting more than one pressing event in comps is wrong too, since when has shoulder strength been twice the importance of other disciplines
Sport has lost touch with it's history and events that can't be "maxed" out have been dropped.
Injuries have increased and the crowd I don't think enjoy watching it as much, who wants to see 8 guys fail a log and 1 guy get a rep and one guy win with 2
I am all for testing athletes to the limit but too much emphasis on "max static strength" at the moment and a slight shift in event choices would make the sport a little less boring to watch and safer for athletes

You know what I'm on about, and this 120 class is IMO a way to get a more sensible, back to the good old days type of comp

the Arnolds is not strongman IMO, and I agree with you completely
