No mate. Most people won't know what the lifts are. But they will probably know what weightlifting is i.e. that thing were big blokes lift weights above their head at the Olympics.
If you say powerlifting most people will presume it is weightlifting.
It may have been slightly different back in the days of the Soviet Union though, when sport was better funded and weightlifting had a higher profile.
Didn't get a reply from the Russian Weightlifting Fed to my e-mail about the number of people that do weightlifting.

Ha ha. They wouldn't have known that i am English as i wrote the e-mail in perfect Russian from my Russian e-mail address and signed it from Nikolai. But i have been called a spy on numerous occasions when Russians meet me face-to-face and pick up on the fact i'm foreign from my accent when i speak Russian

Interesting, wouldn't that total have given him 2nd at the recent worlds?
MrSmall12/12/11 @ 17:06
At that comp earlier in the year, the SHW winner from that went to Worlds, Koklyaev bombed due to injury and 2 earlier misses.

apparently in Ukranian its Wednesday, not Russian!
So what does Sereda mean, is it something as cool or have you just ruined this guy's reputation?
