How can you train for a log event without a log?

I've never done one before but I have a log event in a competition next weekend. I'm a girl so it's not easy to locate a log that's even light enough for me to try out. However I understand that the log being used in this comp is 35kg unloaded.

Anyhoo, was wondering whether a tricep bar would be a workable substitute? I do olympic lifting so I'm okay with your basic clean and press technique, but it's the awkwardness of the object and the grip that I'm trying to replicate.

Alternatively should I just not bother and work it out at the time with the real thing (I am presuming we get a bit of warm up/playtime with the log before we have to do it in competition)?

Cheers for any advice!

i found it easier than a bar actually, usually best to pull it onto your belt (or belly if you are like me then kind of roll it up to your shoulder, i find getting a 90k log into position much easier than a 90k clean with a bar

If you don't have a log I would just train clean and presses. Do some hammer curls, some neutral grip incline dumbell presses as well if feeling virtuous.
And watch a lot of videos on Youtube!
Best of luck.

I'm in London.

Is that Mark Clegg's place? Useful to know if they do have a 50kg log. I'm unlikely to go there before next weekend but perhaps I can make a trip another time as it looks fab!

don't know where exactly in London you are - but one place I know of that does have a log is Hercules Gym in Colchester, possibly a bit of a trek but Wayne Cowdrey trains there and I need to get up there myself at some point!

but I can't imagine there wouldn't be a gym with a strongman log SOMEWHERE in London??

We have 3 logs.

A jt one which weighs 82Kg, a home-made thinner one which weighs 60Kg, and another one which is as awkward as f**k and also weighs 60Kg.

Ah, it's the weight that's the issue as I'm a girl, and not a particularly big or strong one at that! I can C&J 60kg and bits at the moment, so I would struggle with a 60kg log although happy to have a go!

I've got a skinny log that weighs 30 kg unloaded. Your welcome to come and try it if you need to get some practice in before the comp. I live in chatham, kent so not too far for you to travel.

Crossfit Reading Strength & Power 2010

Don't know what the log weight will be or the format of the event - we find out on the day.

I'm not sure if they have a light one, but Reflexions gym in Dartford have strongman logs, 35 minutes from London Bridge by train.
