Does anyone else find these unusually hard?

Tonight I setup at gym with bar on lowest pin, plates pretty much scuffing the floor once 140+ loaded. Slight platform raise in rack put me at a small (inch max deficit). Any bend the bar would have at start is already gone as the plates hanging loose have already bent it, so the initiation is without any momentum whatsoever. Not done a rack pull for many a year now and was quite surprised at the utter deadweight feel at the start.

Never gone that low but I did find 14" deads done in the rack were weaker from the floor at one point so brought them up and it increases my floor pulls...now anything off the floor is stronger so if its weak it may be worth hammering it. Also of course with rack pulls you get none of the bar bend before the pull so is tougher as you say.

Only time I pull from that low is if I pause the dead, just inch it off the floor, pause then pull..nice alternative and good to train technique.

Obviously I. No where near the leauge you guys are in but yeah at around 15" and under I find it harder than a pull of the floor, Danny boy told me this would be the case i have to say i was sceptical but he was spot on,makes sense I guess ....no momentum and maximum inertia ans close to the floor so further to travel, it's Intresting what oxman has said there I may employ that logic.

Yes, a barbell sat on the pins can feel very dead.

I always felt a vulnerable spot in my back on these movements and I always worried that it would pop instead of the weight moving, so I was mainly a squat focused strongman.

I was OK with 18" though because I could wedge my knees under it Cool

I do block pulls from 3 inches. I have been following programming from Mr Bolton and I find it's a great height to pull from. Certainly helped my lock out strength!

I haven't pulled from a rack in years. they always say pulling from blocks/mats is similar to the floor.

yes we've all been following his routine at ralls and we had a 3 week phase pulling off 2 inch blocks -
most of us find this a very tough height to pull from esp conventional... it'll definitely bring your hammies up
and help overcome the common grind point mid shin.

yes, the strain on back feels magnified - it's amazing how being able to exploit even maybe only 1-1.5 inches of bar bend
with a stiff IPF bar is far more forgiving.

He had me pulling off low blocks for the first 6 weeks. I think he will have me pull from the floor the remaining.

I thoroughly enjoy his programming. It certainly works for me!!

You should be focusing on martial arts training, in case I find you.

The last I saw of megaton he was very unhappy with one Mr Hall and lifted a log above his head in the woods !!!

Meanwhile........I also find a massive diffrence between block pulls and rack pulls.

Hold on is Megatron Brad castlberry's Father? Or PT perhaps Eek
