Strongman Rehband Cup-2014 (review + full video)

International tournament Strongman Rehband Cup has been held Nov, 22, 2014 in Moscow under the aegis of StrongmanRUS organization.
In first time athletes of the World TOP and Russian strongman stars gathered in the Strongman Training Centre.
After the four hardest events, which about we will speak later, the pedestal looks like this:

The overall standing
1. Ivan Shatovkin (Russia, Moscow, SR-team, coach Alexey Minaev) – 31 points
2. Alexander Lysenko (Russia, coach Vladimir Kalinichenko) – 30,5
3. Evgeniy Markov (Russia, coach Vasiliy Grischenko) – 25

4. Krzysztof Radzikowski (Poland) – 22
5. Lauri Nami (Estonia) – 20
6. Alexander Lashyn (Ukraine) – 16
7. Vladimir Kalinichenko – 14,5
8. Ervin Katona – 9,5
9. Vidas Blekaitis (Lithuania) – 7,5 (injury)

There were four hardest events, first of them was “The Giant Dumbbell” – 120kg or 100kg for choose for reps, time-limit 120sec.

Lauri Nami was first athlete, who start to perform. He chose the dumbbell 100kg and pressed it for 3reps. First athlete, who tried to lift the giant dumbbell 120kg was Krzysztof Radzikowski, who is famous by his fantastic overhead. He pressed it few times, but could not fix the dumbbell, but we know, he did it at the warm-up. So, he start to lift the 100kg dumbbell, but time and forces lasted just for 4 lift.
Another four athletes have could to press the dumbbell 120kg – Vidas Blekaitis and Alexander Lysenko have done 1 reps both, Evgeniy Markov has done 2 reps and Ivan Shatovkin has done 5reps! This result is official absolute record in Russia (control weighting: the weight of the dumbbell is 119,750kg, it’s fixed in protocol by all six judges).
By the way, the only athlete in the world, who pressed 120kg Giand Dumbbell for 5 reps is Vytautas Lalas. He did it at the Arnold Strongman Classic-2013, and it is absolute world record. But then time-limit was 90sec.

The second event of Strongman Rehband Cup was “Medley”: Farmers walk 2x150kg for 40m (20+20m with turn); tire carry – athletes should to carry a tire 98kg for 20m and throw it across the platform 123cm; kegs loading (20x100kg, distance 15m and 10m for the platform 123cm). Time-limit 120sec.
It was very hard event, only three athletes have done it all: Ivan Shatovkin, Evgeniy Markov and Alexander Lysenko. Ivan Shatovkin was the fastest – 1min 26sec, it’s for 15sec better that Evgeniy Markov result and for 30sec better, then Alexander Lysenko. Unfortunately, Vidas Blekaitis injured his back and couldn’t to continue. Lauri Nami have could to do just Farmers Walk, all other athletes have stopped at the one keg.

“Axles-medley” was the third event: 140kg, 150kg, 160kg, 170kg, time-limit 90sec. After the exhausting previous eventtheforceshasbeenlostathletesandevenclearfavoritescouldn’tshowtheirbestresults – Evgeniy Markov has pressed only one axle, 5 athletes have pressed 2 axles, and only Alexander Lysenko has pressed 3 axle (160kg last). Ivan Shatovkin has come to the axles last in view of the results of previous event. To win in this competition it was enough to press three axles faster than Alexander Lysenko, and Ivan did it – 1min 03,98sec (Lysenko result is 1min 10,66sec). He didn’t do the last axle 170kg, cos he won this event with 160kg and the best time. So, Shatovkin won three events in a row.

“Atlas Stones” was the final event. 130kg (5m to the platform), 140kg (4m), 160kg (3m), 180kg (near the platform), 195kg (near the platform). Time-limit 90sec. Lauri Nami was the King of Stones of the Strongman Rehband Cup, his result is 36,52sec. Alexander Lysenko became second with 1min 12,52sec, Evgeniy Markov became third, he loaded 4 stones for 32,23сsec; Alexander Lashyn and Krzysztof Radzikowski also did 4 stones, Vladimir Kalinichenko result is 3 stones; Ervin Katona loaded 2 stones. Ivan Shatovkin was leading with big margin, so he came at the final event last. It was enough to load three stones to the platform faster, then Vladimir Kalinichenko for a win, and Ivan did it.

So, Ivan Shatovkin won three of four event and won the tournament.

It can to be said, Ivan is a unique sportsman, who with the bodyweight 102kg can not only to compete with the athletes of the World Top, but also beat them.
It is good, that there are new young athletes in Russia, who will make a history of Russian and World strongman.
