Well as I've been out of doing anything for a while I'm thinking of playing rugby again.

Just wondering if anybody has any good training routines for rugby?
Avatarunit94
Lifting or conditioning? Or both?
Avatardanbaseley
Get down the club for training and see how good/bad you feel after the first two sessions; then adjust your training from there.
Avatarbrocerslrd
Conditioning wise will let actual rugby training take care of that more the lifting side
Avatarunit94
I'd figure out how bad training takes it out of you, if can lift 2 dyas or less id go full body, 3 days or more id go upper/lower split. You know the drill lol just do what makes you strong in the main lifts and it will carryover.

Well Chaos I did have a habit of indulging in a bit of thuggery on the pitch at times

Just make sure you go back for seconds in a shot that is ideally suited for slow motion.

I used the template for in-season training from 531 For Football when I went back a few years ago after a 17 year break. I got stronger as the season went on and ended up getting the players player of the year award in a team that went unbeaten and I was far from the most talented player, just that a lot of the better players faded as the season went on.

It's a 2 day split and looks like this:

Day 1
Squat 531
Bench Press 531
Dips 3 sets
Chins 3 sets

Day 2
Trap Bar Deadlift 531
Military Press 531
GHR 3 sets
Sit Ups 3 sets

If you don't have a trap bar Wendler suggests DOH Deadlift.

Oh we always had at least one punch up a game! Although t**tting someone on the floor who was knokced out wasn't quite the done thing!
Avatarbrocerslrd
Chaos, having looked at the replays of that incident a few times the part on the floor was just out of line

I went raining Thursday night and apart from wanting to puke a few times things were okay.

Decided to go to the gym Friday, did some light (felt heavy) squats and strict press followed by 1.5 mile run in approx. 14 mins. Result is that my legs no longer work properly and going up and down the stairs bloody hurts.

Time to work hard and get strongish and fit again

What's your basic aerobic conditioning like?
Avatarbrocerslrd
Iain the problem at the minute is I've done nothing for 12 month so probably pushed my luck a bit far
