Doesn't even have to be the Leg Press, that's just something I've had luck with in the past. But if squatting that often f**ks you up, then Squat as often as you can and fill in the rest of the days with *something* to work the legs. Just do something to fill in the rest of the Squat sessions and squat once a week or fortnight. Whatever you can manage.

Lost his pen, then found his pen. #phew Member 4899, 2956 posts | Countless people have made progress with their Deadlifts without squatting - I think you'll be OK. As has been said, fixing the problem should be no 1 - having said that, some problems can't be fixed.

I also didn't do deadlifts, just high-rep weighted hypers. Both deadlifts and squats went up; especially deadlifts. Other people I know have had similar results and I find this fascinating; almost unbelievable. I can understand ones deadlift improving without squatting at all (but continuing to train deadlift). Lots of people have done this. But squat and deadlift improving without training either of them, I find difficult to swallow. You're not the first to say this though; I've heard it from others.

Last 2.5 months for me, no change to diet - No squats, no deadlifts, no front squats, no stiff legs. However, 3x week leg press, GHR, leg extensions, DB lunges, leg curls, all sorts of rep ranges, chasing strength with 3-5 reps right up to drop sets for 20 reps Result - 1" lost off legs and weak as piss.

I agree, can't see that happening unless you're putting on a lot of weight or just starting out. PAGAN said:I didn't squat for my first two years of strongman. I put 90k on my deadlift. Intolerant of old shtick. Member 5276, 431 posts SQ 222, BP 145, DL 265632.0 kgs @ 96kgs UnEq | Jack, no idea if this will be of any use to you at all, but when my knees were so bad that I couldn't squat, I found as Marc said above that I could squat to a box that put me literally at parallel (or an inch below) if I focused on sitting back and using my hamstrings more than my quads. I only ever did that for about six months, but my regular squat actually went up in that time even though I was only doing box squats once a week. I didn't grind any though, they were all explosive. YMMV
