I work the door a lot on my own with a 380 capacity. Try doing that and asking a group of 10 rugby lads to leave who don't want to.

I did 6 years of what I'd call full time so 3+ nights a week, still do a bit now and again 12 years after starting so agree with the lads who said you never leave!!

There's good, there's bad, but that goes for any job. I certainly ain't superman but my security CV is pretty solid, the full spectrum from lone doors at s**t pubs in s**t towns to head door at 2000 capacity venues, being flown to Romania as a consultant and doing a little close protection too.

I can safely say you're in at least as much danger on the piss as you are working a door. As I said I'm not superman, not by any stretch of the imagination, but never got seriously hurt on the doors yet have been hospitalised when out drinking with two other (very good) door lads because we were in such a silly state we were vulnerable like you would never be at work.

If you fancy it, go for it. I'd be more worried about the potential lifestyle problems than the 'danger'. It is easy to become pretty antisocial as a result of the job.

I worked the doors form 1992 to 2004 when the badges came in.

I started for extra cash while I was doing my apprenticeship/college, working 4 nights a week but by the end I was only working 1 regular night (due to working away)and gave up totally when you HAD to have a badge because I wasn't forking out good money just for the odd night.

What most people forget about working the doors is the s**tty bits of the job. Most of the job is boredom. You'll deal with more people being sick all over the place than you will with fights.

I pushed the guy away with my palm to his chest. I hit him that hard his heart stopped. The ambulance managed to save his life but i wouldnt go back to doing that job for all the money in the world its too easy to put yourself in unwanted positions.

did doors for 6 years and up until that point i had it easy and thought it was doing my life no harm.

f**k me that's scary
