Edd Hall would have been world class strongman if he slowly and steadily progressed up to 170kg.

Steady now.

True,

Magnus Ver was quiet respectable though..
His best lifts in competition include a 400 kg (882 lb) raw squat, 275 kg (605 lb) bench press with shirt and 250 kg raw bench press, 375 kg (827 lb) raw deadlift, and a raw total of 1015 kg (2238 lb). He once held the world record for a tire deadlift of 445 kg (981 lb).

...and dont forget Gary Taylor, he was a static monster for his day and always overlooked for some reason:
Bench Press - 235kg (518lb) raw.
Squat - 405kg (892lb)
Deadlift - 357kg (786lb) raw, no wrist straps.
Behind-the-Neck Push Press - 210 kg (462 lb) winning lift at 1995 World's Strongest Man Final
Behind-the-Neck Push Press - 270.5kg (595lb) followed by 272.5kg (600.75lb) At strength seminar c. 1995 (if you want to believe that!)

Those late 90s WSM were a joke in many respects. Ahola was legit strong. Most of rest were leagues away from modern athletes.

3 grams of eq, 2 of tren, and 2 grams of sustanon per week. Eye bloat would speak of heavy slin use. Bless these hard working athletes.

Gary Taylor was stupid strong.
Edit: I missed the "late" 90s part. My bad.

Taylor was a tremendous overhead lifter and dynamic athlete. He was not a static monster akin to Hall and Co, but perhaps the only one who could hang with today's crew given the chance. Taylor is possibly the best all round strength athlete in UK history -commonwealth athlete, gave Dorian Yate a run for Mr Britain, WSM.

I spoke with Z on Saturday. He trained events. He still has a neck injury but is definitely competing at WSM. He said he will make the final but he is still recovering from injury but next year he will be fully fit.. He looks completely different in person and looks really lean and muscular..

Magnus could barely deadlift 700 pounds or squat 600lbs. He was a good bencher and mover of medium heavy weights. He would not qualify for a final today.

Get them doing the sort of events they were doing in 99/00/01 with the sort of weights they had then and he may have a shot. He was a very good athlete.

His events in 99

Carry and drag
Truck Pull
Loading race
Herculees Hold
Log Lift
Tyre flip/carry medly

With the weights used in 99 I think his speed would see him beat most of the modern athletes. Horses for courses really.

He could deadlift around 750ibs. Not great by todays standard but enough to put him midfield in a final in his time.
