If you had say 6-8months of time with no responsibilities and just the goal of getting bigger/stronger, what would you do? (preferably without drugs)

e.g training daily, training twice a day, increasing calories massively, more mobility work etc..

sleep when i want not dictated by being at work for a specific time - pretty damning scientific evidence now says we rise far too early.
take short 30-1hr sleeps as and when needed.
increase training volume over time.
optimal nutrition - eat good food, when you want and not rushing down crap between day long sprint planning lol.
do things that are beneficial for mind - see my lovely GF more, spend time with my young nephew, family. relaxation, chilling out.

was lucky to be able to do what you describe for a few weeks between contracts once and made substantial gains.

More food, more sleep definitely.

I'm doing a lot better with sleep these days, but bulking now and on some days I fall short.

With those things in place I'd probably want to increase training volume at some point.

FULL MARKS to the dudes that train week in / week out with no sauce - the real heroes of the game , I can't tell you how easy everything is with gear..... do I sound like I miss it !!?? LOL, well I dont*.

I would say just really enjoy and appricate the free time you have to train and get swole.

This essentially nails it for me. Naps, family time and good food, its a hard life to beat i suspect.

aas stop all the stresses of life that trash hormones naturally making a blind bit of difference.

remove those stresses then you will make considerable gains without drugs. its something
even those who aren't lucky enough to have time off to train like a full time athlete need to consider.
don't get wound up or insomniac worrying about s**t. don't get involved in arguments, learn to relax
and surround yourself with positive people. don't get rat-arsed or eat s**t every weekend.. list is endless!

for me, sleep is somthing I miss out on ...I get up at 4:30 ...but there is no-way I can go to bed befor 9pm , so I just make the best of it.

I'm not massivly stressed or a worrier but having 3 kids comes with unavoidable stresses.

and of course getting older puts up certain hurdles toward DEM GAINZ

I would do lots and lots of cycling and possibly some indoor rowing too.

Plus, on 3-4 evenings a week, I would do some vanity bodybuilding type stuff with hammer strength type machines. Nothing too strenuous here.

I reckon I could build a fit, healthy and cracking looking body this way. Light and lean but also quite powerful looking.

I would get rid of the clocks in my house.
I would sleep when I wanted and have a nap every day during the day.
I would squat and bench heavy once a week.
I would deadlift and bench heavy once per week
I would train assistance heavy once per week.
I would do strongman events once per week (keg loading, farmers, log)

I would eat as much as I could and use extreme hard gainer by myprotein.
I would have my doctor prescribe me HRT.

All of this is costly, but if I had the means....

The two things that I think most people get wrong in these situations are doing too much too soon and thinking that just increasing training volumes to those of a 'pro' will get them great results.

If I knew I had this kind of window I'd spend the 6-12 months leading into it preparing myself for the extra volume I'd want to do, adding in a little extra every month or so.

That being said, many already do the volumes close to those of full time athletes (or more sometimes) but what we don't do is the extra stuff. The proper flexibility and mobility work, the daily massages, the consistently good diet, the non training sedentary time etc. Then when their 'pro' style routines don't work they blame the programme.

Many full time athletes who have the discipline to do it talk of how boring their lives are most of the time.

I'd lift twice a week to absolute exhaustion (mostly bicep curls).
I'd eat 5 "Mutant Mass" shakes a day on top of 500grams oats and 4 pints of whole milk.

I'd start a YouTube channel and do half depth squats.

Guaranteed to get extra strong after 6 months.

Sod Sleep.

Oh... and insulina.
