Right lads

i have been noticing for a while that the meat that we get sometimes from the Supermarket isnt realy that great quality and is pumped full of water in some cases.

i have been looking in to buying a Pig and Half a Coo and buying my Poultry from a local butcher.

now just wondering if some of you guys use this method and have you noticed a change in the quality in meat you get at the supermarket.

I'll only get my meat from our local butchers; I know where it's been farmed then and at least it's been dealt with properly etc...

All free range and no added s**t! Yes it's more expensive but I dont care...

Every so often we buy in bulk and split between the families (cow, pig etc...) but mainly the steak, bacon and rib cuts...

It does work out a bit cheaper at times but the quality is next to none; Sainsburys et al are s**t when it comes to decent meat IMO

My partners dad is a wholesale butcher and so we know the provenance of all the meat and how it was prepared, I don't mean organically raised on combed grass and stroked everyday by puppies, but the fact that it is not water injected or the mince is quality and not hooves.

Deffo makes a difference, if a local butcher is too expensive compared to supermarkets (although most are trying as hard as they can) try a reputable meat market, we have used Birmingham meat market in the past when certain things haven't been stocked and got some real bargains. Also lucky that we can shoot round here so picked up a lot of rabbit and pigeon.

Overall get a friendly butcher and you wont go far wrong

I've worked in the meat trade since i left school and to see some of the stuff supermarkets sell discuists me.

My advise would be to go and talk to one of you're local butchers, ask if he can do said pig but fresh as pork is better fresh. For you're beef ask him if he could hang you it for a week or two to mature it, also if you want better taste ask for heifer (sounds heffer) meat. It is a touch fatter than steers and bull beef, but loads more tender and very tasty.

Market in Sheffield has great prices on bacon, chicken, beef and eggs plus fruit and veg.

I love Tesco but the meat is too expensive for what it is and I get double for the same price.

Could swear I saw a huge packet of bacon for 9 quid being sold by one of the vendors. Either 1lb or 2lb cannot remember.
