European Juniors and Under 23's

first day i got there i was heavily underweight 72.8kg i had come off alot of s**t foods and stopped drinking entirely for a month it made me lose more weight than predicted i was weighing 78kg in morning..

so i decided i needed to put weight on so i ate and ate and ate for 3 days and just slept before and after meals i was lifting on wednesday.. on monday i did a training session in my opinion i was asked to to do too much

Snatch

warm up...

70/2
80/2
90/1
95/1
100/1
100/1

Clean and jerk

70/1
90/1
100/1
110/1
120/1
125/1

front squat (initially i said i didnt want to do front squat)

80/2
100/2
120/1
130/1
140/1 ( Your legs are too strong do 150)
150/1 (way to easy finish on 160)
160/1

and at this stage i thought i've done way too much that stuff was heavy

next day (tuesday) i was aching

then i had breakfast went back to my room and was really ill.. (both sides)

so i decided to sleep and just hope it would go away.

wednesday morning mixed with nerves i threw up again.

got to the venue 2 hours before start and i was still aching feeling nervous and in my mind wondering if im going to throw up.

Snatch

20/few
20/few
40/2
50/1
60/1
70/1
80/1
90/1
90/1
100/1
105/1
110/1

warm up was okay but i felt weak.

First attempt 115kg

came out i was nervous the stands were full of people atleast 300-500 spectators mainly school kids so as you can imagine they were just all talking about bob the builder or whatever kids are into these days i wanted to make this easy so i put way too much effort into the snatch caught it right behinde my head too far back i could feel my fore-arm streching alot so i dropped it instead of dislocating or tearing something

second attempt 115kg

came out more collected this time i knew if i put too much effort in again i was gonna loose mobility in one of my elbows (dislocate the c**t) so i went for less effort and i didnt put enough in lost it forward..

now i was s**tting myself now i was starting to feel like i was going to through up and my back was seizing up..

third attempt 115kg

i just got really thrust-rated and went out like niall for a deadlift attempt was roaring on the way to the platform (the crowds were loving it shouting "come on great britain") waited for the 30 second buzzer and pulled as hard as i could and smashed it above my head in perfect place problem was my arse wasnt anywhere near the floor... Power snatch... PB

baring in mind i wanted to start 120kg this was slightly f**king annoying.

Clean and jerk

i was just releived i hadnt bombed had i of bombed i think Mark Clegg would of t**tted me which wouldnt of been very fun for me.

warm up

70/1
80/1
90/1
100/1
110/1
120/1
130/1
135/1

All so easy.

First attempt 140kg

came out confident and because of thhe crowd on my 3rd snatch they were now behinde me "come on Great Britain" as they shouted. git a big pull on the clean caught it high not quite power but high for 140 stood up easy blasted jerk Peice of piss.

Second attempt 145kg

exactly the came as the first one.. carbon copy infact.

Third attempt 150kg

i had to wait about 15 mins for the other lifters and some was missing it and as i was on 3rd attempt that meant i had to wait even longer. and they kept slapping me up saying huge pull (which i had been doing anyway) so i wet out feel a little cold but i thought f**k it last attempt just give it everything. i went out overly aggressive for 150kg pulled it really high i got to the bottom of the clean before the 150 did so it landed hard on my windpipe it rocked me backwards. i leaned back into it dizzy as f**k stood up fine but i was seeing butterflys and angels and all sorts of s**t i went for the jerk punched it out maybe an inch infront tried to hold it did for about a second then lost it and nelt down on floor for about 10 seconds trying to let my brain breath.. was a dizzy boy.

first international. alot of mistakes. alot to bring home. alot to change in the future.

cheers. X

Nice write-up! Shame about all that didn't go right.... its only your first international so I'm sure a lot more is to come!

What was the purpose of doing heavy strength work (FS or BS) so close to a comp? I know a lot of elite weightlifters do it but don't see the point to be honest... you won't get stronger and you can get weaker right before a comp.

on the front squat, front i litrally have no idea to me seems like a bad idea surely it would only tire your legs out?

well technically itrs my 4th but its my first BIG international but definatly a learning curb.
