And there would be nice strict judging and a proper world champion not 1000 different world champions in every federation. Wink

actually in weightlifting they are allowed to wear knee wraps also, im sure ive seen a weightlifter in double ply knee sleeves too

The sport was massive in the 80's the push was made for the Olympics then and didn't go anywhere sport pretty much died out until the early 2000's when uci supercross made it into the xgames and hit tv screens around the world roll on 13 years and it is now an Olympic sport

I wonder if powerlifting would have a better chance of getting in the Olympics if it was being put forward as another type of weightlifting by the IWF, rather than by a separate governing body, in s similar manner to bmx or snowboarding

This is the only way I could see it happening strength in numbers I heard someone say in the current criteria for getting a sport into the Olympics the if oly lifting wasn't already in it wouldn't get in down to its lack of numbers or something

Ipf merging with the iwf wouldn't be too crazy an idea I doubt it would ever happen

Under uci how many disaplines are there I can think of almost 10

they didnt have any when i watched the 120+ class all the lifters came out to either silence or some s**tty chart dance track

one of the commentators also said that a lifter the day before had asked for black metal and was refused it

The music needs to be crowd friendly. I'm sure track and field athletes don't like some of the music they play in stadia inbetween events, but it's to pump the crowd up, not them.

the sport needs to be for the lifters, not some boring old fart in the audience that doesnt like the lifters choice of music

That's not as simple a request as you think, AFAIK the music is played from CD's that the organisers compiled prior to the comp so to play another song they would have to stop one CD to play the request, which is assuming they have the song that is requested. In my experience of lifting in internationals they seem to play the same cd over and over again so I don't think its the case that they won't play black metal but its a case they can't.

Whilst I agree with the first part of your post; if the IPF want to get powerlifting into the Olympics they have to put the audience first.

theyve played lifters requests before, i was always under the impression you gave them the cd with what you want on it and that was that

most other feds manage to do it...

I couldn't care less if music is playing or not. Does it matter? Last thing am thinking about at a meet is the music.
