There's a huge trend at the moment with people adopting the attitude of being fine with people lifting however they please and in whichever fed they please because it's just a bit of fun and nobody takes powerlifting seriously anyway so what's the big deal.

Well, in my opinion, the big deal is some serious powerlifters want the sport to be taken seriously, and on a large scale level it can only be taken seriously if it is IPF (and classic, not equipped, but that's another matter).

I feel that by participating in all your other versions of powerlifting "just for fun", you are actively harming the credibility of the most legitimate and globally respected form of powerlifting. Maybe not to lifters and other people in the know, but to the people who you need to explain why there are 6 world record holders in the same weight and age class for the same lift, who all lift in the same gym? It's a f**king mess, no wonder nobody cares about it.

It might seem harmless to just keep lifting wherever you have the most fun, because no one takes it seriously anyway so why should you bother... but some of us would like to see this change, and you are contributing to organisations that are preventing powerlifting from gaining any credibility.

It is no more of a mess than other sports such as boxing, which does attract huge amounts of money..

Powerlifting is never going to be in the Olympics, be anymore credible, or ever going to attract huge amounts of money. The sooner people realise this the better.

Look how successful and rewarding in £££, crossfit has become, leaving powerlifting sadly lagging well behind. Top crossfitters make money, crossfit gyms money. Does powerlifting? No. Will it ever? No. It is far too niche.

Not really. These are the people making a name for themselves. Not some boring IPF lifter. I never go on powerlifting watch, and they are hardly just online gurus, they are proven big lifters.

They are good lifters in their field. However the reason you know of them as opposed to IPF lifters is because they have been put around the internet. Mainly it their own back. Only Bolton, Andrey and KK have actually done anything outside a niche of the sport in the US. Uber strong though the other guys may be. Plus given as most of the names mentioned are from the US and we have a very. US centric culture again its not a suprise.

You have never heard of these 'boring IPF' lifters as you have never bothered to take an interest in them or their meets. Strange as regardless of what style of powerlifting you enjoy the IPF pretty much 'is' powerlifting world wide.

Finally how are the guys you have mentioned intrinsically more exciting than an equivalent IPF lifter? Other than the fact they have greater online presence for a number of reasons.

This is a legit question and not trying to disagree that you can like what style you like for the reasons you like.
