I usually don't post videos in here and just keep them to my log, this also isn't technically a training video. It is however in my opinion the most important aspect of training and sports at the high level. I don't see this ever getting posted about so wanted to share. It also should clear up some of the confusion about my goal setting and training protocols.

I recommend watching this video to everyone.

I agree with most of what you say. But, I also follow 'smart' targets, and I think this is where we differ:

S - specific
M - mesurable
A - attainable
R - realistic
T - timely

the 'rt' part is what you disregard; but this part is what is crucial for me to progress. My goals are attainable as there are no limiting factors (work, family etc.. all come second to my goals, so they are attainable), and I don't doubt you have the same mindset too.

But, my goals are realistic and timely, ie 2.5kg on my pb every 3 month (for 30k on my total per year). Your goals are drastically non-realistic and categorically not timely, BUT its for the reason you specify "aim for the stars and land on the moon".

You can still dream big with calculated targets; I don't have to set a goal of 300x10 deadlift to be able to hit a 310... I just program within my KNOWN biological adaptation rates and capitalise on this. No belief is going to change biology, if I cut I bleed.

I'm firmly on the same song sheet though, and believe that the will to succeed trumps genetics and programming intricacies.

ps. Thanks for the share.

Your welcome. I don't feel my goals are none realistic, the only major long term goal I have yet to come close to is the 300x10 deadlift and this is pretty much because I haven't been training for it in that I've been focusing on other things (gripsport). It's on a deadlift bar and touch and go. Compared to my other major goals of world grip champion and certing the #4 gripper its a fairly easy one. There's a ton of people that can do 300x10 tng on a deadlift bar, a lot less are becoming world champions in whatever sport they do and nobody has certed the #4. Those goals i'm close to, have a shot at becoming world champion in less than a month (and got 2nd to the current world champion at Europe's) and i've been 1mm from credit card set closing #4 as required in the cert.

My thoughts are that a lot of people underestimate what they can really accomplish. Of course yes you have to set smaller more easily done goals the whole way through as well but I feel like setting these huge long term goals drives a person forward more than the average. My thoughts are that for example unit aims to be worlds strongest man, (or at least he f**king well should) I think most in his shoes would have this goal. To me it's like why not aim to be the best strongman ever instead. It's pretty obvious with youth and everything on his side he has a shot at winning wsm. It's hard as f**k yes, but is it possible? I think a lot would say yes. If that can be done, why can't he be the best ever too? Who's to say that's not possible so why put a limit on it? I feel like this way of thinking gives more drive and actually makes the wsm goal more doable as you hold yourself to a higher standard with everything done.

Hope that makes sense.

Love your passion mate! With You and tom even Matthew British strongman is in very safe hands imo. To say you are all still jnrs but can push the big boys shows that you can 100% achieve.
Your training interests me as well as its completely different to other strongmen.

Fair play, hope you do it unit.

Have you broken this down into short term targets?

I imagine this would get very complicated.

I haven't really broken it down too much. Big thing is getting to Brits in Jan, then goal is top 3 which will take me to worlds.

^^ while top 3 is an admirable goal, top 5 at Brits would most likely get you to Worlds my friend. Best idea is to play it safe though and win Brits.

How is the #4 rated you almost closed ccs? Is it an average or maybe even hard one?

Paul I was meaning to ask you. Did you always have a good grip? Or was it something you trained/focused on early in your training?
