In my opinion a bodybuilder could do a show on a Saturday and a strongman event on the Sunday. A strongman in general, lets face it the majority are strong as an ox but carry a lot of body fat couldn't do the same.

Hello Mate,

I really have to disagree with this, my local gym is a bodybuilding gym and I've trained with loads of lads who compete (some to a very good level) and watched their shows.

The s**t that they put their body through in the last few weeks of comp prep (mainly diet / water related), means that they are so dehydrated / card depleted that I'd be suprised (if they competed on a Saturday) if they could even get wood on a Sunday let alone do anything strenuous.

A week or two later maybe, but not the next day.

As it stands I reckon I'm good for 14-15 without wraps.
With wraps - Who knows?

I'm changing all my my training so that after my top weight set is over, the rest of the session is brutal as can be with minimum recovery time. Hopefully I'll build up some real conditioning. I'll also be repping out with 190+ every week (should be at around 205 the week before the comp).

Moving events in strongman (running with heavy yoke & farmers, carries etc) can be very harsh on the knees
A bit of added assistance on the knees might be a god send come comp time

Good point JC and not one that I'd considered.

I'm new to all this strongman lark so perhaps my views will change in time...

Why though? If your max with 190 is 10 for example without, you should be able to do 14 (or whateva, the point is more..) with

I get what you're saying I just don't really see the point (this goes for equipped lifting in general i suppose). I'd find 190 for 10 with just a belt more impressive than 190 for 14 with wraps.

I just don't get how we have got so obsessed with big numbers, that it's become the default position to use equipment that provides positive resistance to get them.

Just my opinion and I know it's not one that everyone shares

Cheers

Your right, he should not lockout his bench and only pull a deadlift to his knees too - thats the best way to train

Let's play nice people.

If the squats were high this week, they won't be next week - Simples!

That's why I've started videoing my training, so I can make sure everything is peachy.

I'll get a better set up for next week and get some skin out for you all Grin

Cheers

I spied 2 squats with the lighter weight.

I'll agree with that, most apart from 2 or 3 at 190k looked high to me.

Aha - The depth police are here Happy

I'm not entirely sure what the score is to be honest, they don't look great on camera but they all felt sank.

The camera was only 6" off the floor so the angle won't be helping and with all my clobber on you can't see my hip crease.

Next time I might get leotard-ed up and try for a proper side shot at the correct height - One thing I've never suffered from is high squats so I'll be buggered If I'm starting now.

Hello All,

First session back in the gym after the u90kg Northern Qualifiers and I wasn't really looking forward to it for 2 reasons.

1) My bloody rib is still bothering me, hurts like hell when taking a deep breath Unhappy (physio is coming on Thursday to sort me out)

2) I've only managed to get 15 hours sleep in the last 4 nights

Anyway I actually felt good when I got going and the session looked like this.

Warm up

190kg x 4 Reps

190kg x 4 Reps

190kg x 4 Reps

212.5kg x 2 Reps
Felt real easy

242.5kg x 2 reps

These felt real nice - Loads more left in the tank Grin

190kg x 9

These felt good as well, I wobbled a little on the 9th rep and my rib gave me a short sharp reminder that it wasn't happy so I left it there. I maybe had another 2-3 reps in me before I would have needed an extended breather.

All in all a solid session and it's put me in a good mood (which will hopefully last for the rest of the week Happy )

Cheers
