International Weightlifting Federation Slams Powerlifting

14th December 2009 - Posted by Rob The International Weightlifting Federation have posted a new article on their website that is a thinly veiled moan about powerlifting:
"For years, powerlifting provided refuge for retired weightlifters, and now even dope-tainted weightlifters are trying to resurrect their careers by competing in this sport, which is hardly ever monitored by anti-doping agencies."
The upset seems to have been caused by a banned Indian weightlifter being allowed to compete in a powerlifting competition.

One would think that such a powerful and well-established organisation would have better sense than to post controversial articles slighting a fellow strength sport. It is no secret that olympic lifting is a struggling sport, particularly in the UK, and with this sort of attitude coming right from the top it's hardly surprising.
